In the serene moments of a pearly dawn
Timidly steps a gentle, spotted fawn
To graze under the magnolia tree
It’s guard up, it’s prepared to flee
Scented white petals floating on a breeze
A soft buzzing coming from the bees
In their flight from hive to bloom
A picture perfect for any room
A swing hanging from a limb
A basket of flowers, full to the brim
A tree with sun-mottled leaves
Hanging with webs a spider weaves
Morning light
A peaceful sight
Morning in the countryside
Drinking coffee with my dog by my side
A picture-perfect start
Simply a piece of nature’s art
Fawn grazing
Me lazing
Enjoying the scents wafting in
Preparing myself for the day to begin

Day 4 of Quitting
If this is how sobriety feels, maybe it’s better to go through life a little buzzed… this, along with other hits like, I want to kill myself, I wish I was dead, and I’m going to throw myself off a bridge have been the only thoughts on rotation these past few days. I promise myself that if, in a month, I still feel like this (‘this’ meaning despondent, full of rage, and simultaneously numb) I can go back to smoking. Until mid-February though? Nicotine is off the table.
