Best Camera To Get If You Want To Be A Filmmaker.. Top Story - February 2021.
Hands down the best camera for someone who wants to get into Filmmaking is the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4k. I have been in the filmmaking business since DV was a thing. You might not even know what that is, and that’s ok. The HDSLR’s movement revolutionized the industry. Affordable film-like quality at the lowest price point ever. Sure an HDSLR is cheaper than the Blackmagic and you get a beautiful depth of field but it's not as good as the BMPCC 4k for various reasons.

The Tiny Town With History On Every Corner
Well, here I am. Back in my hometown. I’ve moved away many times. I’ve made a home in several cities around the UK. I’ve lived in a few different countries. I’ve travelled the globe. When coronavirus unleashed itself on an unsuspecting world last March I was in Peru, finally about to fulfil a lifetime’s ambition of climbing up Machu Picchu. I didn’t quite make it. Instead I was locked down in a hotel room in Cusco for three weeks before being repatriated back to the UK on an emergency flight organised by the British government. And now I’m back in my hometown, in my childhood home.

The Myth of a Hometown
There’s a tree in Leamington that claims to be the centre of England. It’s not, but we’re pretty close. The actual middle of England is about 20 miles up the road and I think we just thought we’d have a speculative pop at the title. Who checks these things anyway? My Grandad once told me that cutting down the Leamington tree would cause the whole of England to collapse, like matter being sucked into a black hole.

I Love “iPhotos”
Growing up I wasn’t much into photography. But all that changed in 1971 when I was reassigned from the command of a rifle platoon to the command of the battalion motor platoon. This assignment meant that I would spend my days and nights on the fire base, instead of out in the boonies. Hence, I was finally able to purchase a decent camera, specifically a Mamiya Sekor 1000dtl, 55mm, f1:4 SLR. Yeah, that’s what I’m talking about. Prior to this purchase, all I had were Instamatics and Polaroids. Now, I wanted to shoot everything in sight. Somewhere I have a collection of shots from 1971-72 which I’ve not been able to locate.

So, You Want to Shoot With the Big Kids
As you go around with your little point and shoot camera, you may see people with their big fancy digital SLR cameras and all the lenses and flashes and think you need one of those. But how do you move from the little camera you know, to one with all the fancy knobs and switches? That is what this article is all about. I will describe a migration path from shooting with a point and shoot to taking pictures with a DSLR.

Where Theres Muck Theres Brass. Top Story - January 2021.
Now then mucka, welcome to the land of chip ‘oyles’ (fish and chips shops), ‘growlers’ (pork pies) and bingo daubers. A wonderful place where a night out will cost you twenty quid, including your kebab, cheesy chips and taxi fare home. A place of hard graft, grit and perseverance, where your mates have always got your back and you’ve always got theirs. I’m talking of Barnsley, the most unique town you’ve never heard of, except we don’t say town, we say tarn.

The Invaluable Beauties of Tucson, Arizona
“Home is where the heart is." Well, I’m not saying that’s not true. But I think there is more to home than that. Home has been something slightly unstable for me most of my life. In twenty-one years, I have moved fifteen times. How am I supposed to determine where my hometown is?

How I Lost My DRONE in the Lake!
If you're a videographer like myself who loves new gear (let's be real, who doesn't?) and want to be able to diversify your portfolio with different shots and angles, buying a drone seems like an amazing idea and investment... but it comes at a cost.

Trail Camera
The Best Cellular Trail Cameras For Capturing Animals In The Wild Is it safe to say that you are prepared to release your internal David Attenborough and get into making nature narratives? Or, on the other hand, maybe shoot some untamed life snaps that are deserving of National Geographic? At that point, it's an ideal opportunity to put resources into a path camera. These clever gadgets permit you to distantly catch film and stills of creatures in settings that would somehow be demolished by the snap of a shade.
