Whether your budget is $200 or $2,000, you can't go wrong with a DSLR. Now, you could start out with a simple point-and-shoot camera, but you eventually want to work your way up to a DSLR, because DSLRs have interchangeable lenses, and the settings can be changed up a LOT more than with a simple point-and-shoot.
