We all know that cats are independent creatures. Many people think of them as a low-maintenance pet, but the reality is that they need just as much love and care as any other pet. A cat needs to be brushed and cleaned regularly so that it won’t get sick, or lose its coat. They also need to be trained, or they may develop bad habits such as scratching furniture or going outside of their litter box. Training your cat can lead to a happier household where you and your cat are both safe and sound. Learn how to train your feline friend In 9 Easy Steps today!

1)Why Train Your Cat?

Cats are not small dogs. While they've co-existed with humans for over 9,000 years and make great pets, they haven't lost their wild instincts or their desire to hunt and explore. They can also be very independent, preferring to do things on their own terms rather than yours.

You may have heard that cats can't be trained like dogs can, but that's simply not true. Cats are smart, capable of learning and willing to work for rewards — all traits that make them prime candidates for training. They need training just as much as dogs do because:

Training helps to establish boundaries so your cat knows what you expect of him.

Training provides mental stimulation.

Training gives your cat a productive way to release energy and the opportunity to spend time with you.

It's fun!

2)A House Trained Cat Is a Happy Cat

Training your cat is a great way to build a bond with them, as it allows you to spend time together and interact with one another. It also provides mental stimulation for your cat, which is important for their well-being.

Cats need mental stimulation to keep their minds healthy. Bored cats can develop behavioural problems such as aggression and scratching furniture, so it’s important that they are given opportunities to keep themselves entertained and active.

Training your cat will help to do this - it gives them a job to do and rewards them with praise or treats when they have completed the task. This makes training a fun activity for both you and your cat and helps them feel happier in their home.

3)Training Kittens

Want to know what your cat is thinking? Use this handy guide to read those furry little faces.

We’re no closer to knowing exactly what our cats are thinking, but that doesn’t mean we can’t take a few cues from their behavior. If you want to know what’s going on in your cat’s mind, a good place to start is with their body language.

To help us better understand our feline friends, we consulted cat behavior expert Pam Johnson-Bennett, author of the forthcoming book What Cats Want. She says that reading your cat starts with understanding their natural instincts. “It really helps people to know that cats are not little humans,” she says. “They do not think like us and they don't process situations the same way we do. They have different needs and different drives than humans have, so if you understand them as cats first, then the behavior makes so much more sense.”

4)Brush, Swiffer and Scoop

Training your cat to accept certain behaviors might not sound like something you need to do. There's a perception that cats are naturally independent and can look after themselves, so why bother?

But training is actually very important for your cat's well-being. It helps you understand your cat's behavior and can enable you to help them better cope with changes in their environment. Also, it gives you a greater sense of control in your relationship with them.

Here are two ways that training can help improve the life of your cat:

A)-Brush

A lot of cats don't like being brushed — they see it as threatening and will run away when they know it's coming. But brushing is an important part of maintaining their coat and skin health. If they're not groomed regularly, they can develop mats that can become infected, and their fur might look oily or dirty.

Training will encourage them to accept brushing as part of the grooming routine, which is vital for maintaining good health.

B)-Swiffer

Cats are naturally territorial, but this can be exacerbated by stressful situations, such as moving house or introducing new pets into the family. Cats who experience these sorts of changes often exhibit problem behaviors such as spraying or scratching their claws on furniture.

5)Brush Your Cat Regularly

Brushing your cat is one of the most important things you can do to help keep them healthy and happy. Not only will brushing reduce hairballs and improve your cat's coat, but it also gives the two of you quality time together — which is always a good thing.

Brushing can be especially important if you have a longhaired cat, because it can help prevent matting of their fur. A regular grooming routine for your cat can also prevent hairballs from forming in their stomach — which in turn means less vomiting and better health for your cat overall!

6)Clean the Litter Box Consistently

Cats are territorial creatures who can get upset when their environment changes. If you haven’t been cleaning the litter box consistently, your cat may stop using it altogether. When this happens, they’re more likely to pee outside the box — and even outside the litter box room.

Make sure to scoop out solid waste at least twice a day and change the entire contents of the box once a week. In multiple-cat households, you may need to do this more often.

7)Know When to Do What

All cats have different personalities so it's important for you to know how your cat behaves in certain situations. Some are more timid and reserved while others are outgoing and active. Knowing which of these personality types your cat falls under will help you train them more effectively.

Some cats are insatiable eaters that will eat anything and everything, even if it's not food! If your cat is one of these, make sure to keep anything that may be potentially harmful out of their reach. If they're known to tear up household items or furniture, put those away as well until they learn not to do those things anymore.

8)When to Use the Pet Gate

If you have a pet gate, you should use it whenever necessary to keep the cat in an area that is known to be safe.

For example, if your cat is getting into something he or she shouldn't or if you are having company over and want to make sure the cat stays out of sight, then a pet gate can come in handy.

I also recommend keeping your cat in a room with a pet gate if you're having any sort of work done on your home that could be harmful to your cat (such as work being done on the ducts when asbestos could be present).

9)When to Throw Out Your Cat's Toys

Cats enjoy playing with a variety of toys, and it's fun to watch them bat around a catnip-filled mouse or carry around their favorite fuzzy ball. But it's important to remember that cats are predators by nature, which means they will eventually take things too far.

The biggest mistake people make when buying toys for cats is assuming it's OK to leave them out all the time. The truth is, cats can get bored with their toys just as easily as dogs do. They may stop interacting with them altogether, or worse yet, find a new use for them — like eating them.

Nowadays there are many pet toys available made from recycled materials and organic fibers, but you probably don't want your kitty ingesting these either. A better idea is to rotate several different cat toys into your pet's playtime routine so they never become tired of any one toy.

Some of the most popular cat toys include:

Catnip bubbles
