We've all heard that expression, "you don't need to be blood to be family," but does that also apply to pets in September? I lost the dog that I had had for about 15 years. I'm not much of a dog person. I'm more of a cat person. My dog Rosie was a corgi mix, and to be 100% honest, in the beginning, I really did welcome the dog. Sadly, I thought my dog was kind of ugly, and I rejected her, but the dog did something I couldn't believe she did. She saved my life. I won't get into detail, but let's say I was actually gonna hurt myself, and my dog saved me. She even got the cat to help. Stop me from hurting myself. That is why I love my animal so much, so when they passed away, it was a heartbreaking day that still is to this day. Nothing can fill that void. Yes, I currently have two other cats. They're amazing animals, but not as amazing as the two that recently passed. Amber was born a stray. She was a runt, but she was a fighter, even as we all know runts usually don't survive because the mother refuses to feed them. The original owner that, at a young age, Amber began eating dry food to survive. She was a fighter.

My first dog Rosie

Rosie, from what I've been told. Her parents were purebreds, but she grew up in a puppy mill. Someone fell asleep on the job, and that's where Rosie came in. My dog is a corgi-Maltese mix. The owner of the puppy mill did not want to keep them, so she kindly gave them away, which is how I got my dog.

My dog and cat were a big inspiration in my life. She was the star of my current comic book. It's called "That's my dawg." It is a bit of an adventure for the two animals, my cat and my dog, working together to sabotage your birthday party because we all know pets hate parties, mostly 'cause they're loud. People tend to kick them at the parts. I'll be sure to include the link when the book is finished. I miss my pets dearly.

Amber my cat

Amber passed away due to kidney failure. We didn't know it because we had just moved into our house, and she was hiding. We assumed she was hiding because it was a new house with a new smell, so she was just shy. We didn't know she was hiding because she was trying to hide her scent. After all, from what I've read when a cat knows it's going to die it hides so that it's family cannot find them so that we predators in the wild cannot harm their loved ones that are still alive and will actually try to find them that when they're dead to keep the predators at bay we cry because she passed away on Thanksgiving in 2019.

My dog Rosie passed away in September of 2025because she was blind in one eye, had stomach issues, and couldn't eat hard food. She had difficulty swallowing, and if that wasn't bad enough, she didn't recognize my husband, and she bit him. We were worried Rosie might end up biting my daughter Miriam, so we did the heartbreaking thing and put her down. Everyone knows the heartbreak of having to put down a family pet. I have been asked if I might consider getting another dog, but to be honest, it's a lot of responsibility. It's like having another baby, but a baby that stays 2 years old for almost 20 years. The same goes for a cat. Maybe in a couple of years, pets will play an essential role in our lives, whether it is for companionship, therapy, or to be a part of your family, so be sure to give them love, because just like people, they have a limited time too.
