humanity
Isn't it ironic that the very best of humanity is seen through the love and empathy we show to our pets?
My Pet Ownership (Part 1)
I have had pets of various sorts throughout out my life, each one gave me love in its own unique way. It also taught me that caring for another being is not to be taken lightly, no matter the trials and tribulations, I experienced while they were with me.

Book on the Bus
“Henry” Tuesday, 3pm Ritz Café, Booth 4 This was the first entry Tomas saw when he picked up and opened that little black notebook he found on the bus. He filtered through the book trying to find any hints as to the owner, with full intentions of giving it to them, but he continued to see this similar theme throughout. Name, day of week, time, and location repeated page after page. Tomas was curious but could not find any kind of information about the owner. Even these mysterious entries had no real information. No phone numbers or email addresses, and it didn’t even appear to have any real names. Tomas wondered whether he should just drop the notebook in a trash bin or drop it off at the library near where he found it since he felt he could be of no help. Once he arrived at his office, he became distracted and stuffed the notebook in his laptop bag and swiftly forgot about it.

My New Roommates
Shamiel, Shamazel, Hasenpfeffer Incorporated. This famous line is from the 1976 – 1983 sitcom, Lavern and Shirley. A spinoff of the other famous sitcom, Happy Days. Lavern and Shirley follows the misadventures of two 20-something Milwaukee girls who work at the made up, Shotz Brewery. It basically followed the same pattern of Lucy and Ethel getting into mishaps and then solving them in 30 minutes, started by the legendary, Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz. I used to religiously watch the show when I was old enough to discover TV and when there were re-runs on every night of the week.

Good deeds can be found anywhere
Working in the vet field, and in an ER clinic at that, I see a lot of really expensive cases. Animal care in general is expensive, and when emergencies strike, it can be fatal. We see people all the time who want to pull out all the stops to save their pet, but the funds just aren’t there. And I hate it. That’s the worst part of my job; seeing people who love their animals so much but can’t afford to help them when emergencies strike. If I had a dollar for every time I saw it happen, I would be able to pay for all of it.

Happy Dog
This was a few weeks ago. I had just left a family BBQ. I made sure to grab as many left overs as I could (which I always do) and was driving home. I needed to stop at the store so I pulled into a corner store. As I was looking for a spot to park, I noticed a lady hanging halfway out of the large dumpster in the back. I have been homeless before so I could understand why she was doing it. I parked my car and went into the store. As I was leaving the store, I noticed the lady had a pet carrier that was in much better shape then the rest of her other items. And out of the carrier came a Pit Bull pup wagging his tail. He also had on a Superman sweater and looked in much better shape than his owner.

Meet the Competition
It was a cool fall evening, and everyone was in place. Mr. Wigelsworth, a silver tabby, found a perfect spot under a small bush, camouflaged like leaves, except for his two green eyes, poking out through a section of bare twigs. Princess Anne, a white Persian, found herself under a large plastic kid’s mini car that someone left out in the back yard. It hadn't been touched in weeks so no one would suspect a cat to be hiding under it and ready to pounce. Wigelsworth whistled the secret greeting, like a bird calling the flock. After a few minutes with no call back, he whistled again, this time much louder and more direct. Still, after no response call, he began to grow frustrated and he called out, "Princess Anne! Do you hear me?" He whistled again.

They don’t make ‘em like you anymore
T. Alba, they don’t make ‘em like you anymore. You float through everyone, maybe even above them. There’s something about you, that I can’t put my finger on - all consuming in a way. Like you ate me up, and spit out the rest. Puked out the rest.

Maisy's Foal
“We ain’t never seen snow quite like this in any November I’ve been around for!” Joe bellowed from the doorway as he tapped his boots on the door jam. “I reckon the wind’s got it feeling like it’s in the negative twenties out there.” He stomped his boots once more and stepped inside, slamming the door behind him with all his might. His body shuddered for a moment and he let out a sigh, “The animals are good though. The chickens look good, the pigs are okay, and a barn owl has made its home in the rafters above Maisy’s foaling stall.” he paused for a moment, “You know, that new space heater is doing them quite good it seems.”
