dog
It's no coincidence that a dog is a man's best friend; they're more faithful than most other animals, and more faithful than many people.
Ella
My name is Crystal and I want to tell you about my girl, Ella. Ella is an apple head chihuahua that I got when I was 18 years old. To give you a bit of background, I’m physically disabled with Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 2 (SMA2)and I’m also chronically ill. The years prior to Ella were my hell, I was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL)when I was 13 you old. I was the first person in the world with SMA2 and ALL, I also had to start my 2 and a half year chemotherapy treatment plan which we weren’t even sure would work for me.

Clifford: The "Untrainable Dog".
Remember the stories about the Big Red Dog named Clifford? Well, I’m lucky enough to have a real Clifford of my own to love and cuddle with every day. Clifford came into my life 8 years ago when I first met my husband. My husband had rescued Clifford a month before my husband and I met and it’s really funny because, before Clifford, I was not much of a dog person. I was really a cat person, or so I thought. When I met Clifford and started to get to know him, my love for him grew immensely and he became my first fur-baby. Greg told me from the beginning how he was warned that Clifford was the “untrainable dog” and “would never be able to be in a home with cats”. I witnessed first hand how Clifford would bolt out of, my now in-law’s, home the second a door was left cracked and he saw an escape route. He was mighty fast and would take off.

My Dog, Shirlee
Dogs bring hearts to our lives. Most especially, my loving dog, Shirlee. Shirlee is a Peek-a-Poo. No, it’s not that little game you like to play with your child. She is a miniature half Pekinese and half Poodle. To me, she is like no other dog that I have owned. Compared to other dogs she has a distinct personality, is energetic, but I would love to talk about her incredible love for us all. It’s clear that she holds a lot of love for us all and she cherishes every day whether it's being inside or going for a walk around the neighborhood.

Oreo
In 2010 my parents split up, and so my dad, my sister and I moved to a new house. We had a dog with my mum but we had to leave it, and of course we were sad. so in 2014 we had a puppy named peanut. She was black all over and was a labradoodle. She was full of so much life and lit up a room with her happiness. But unfortunately she died later that year after a terrible accident. We had to say goodbye and that broke our hearts. In 2015 we decided we were ready to get a new dog. We went to the pound for months, but as our house is small we needed a small dog and none were there. On gumtree my sister saw a woman needing to load off a bunch of puppies quite quickly, so we decided to go and have a look. We are from Hobart, and the lady lived in Launceston (Tasmania) so it was roughly a two hour trip. After we visited and picked her out we went back up 2 weeks later to officially take her home. She was 5 weeks old, way earlier than we should of gotten her, but the lady was desperate and we really wanted her. So we spent the day up there with the dog then drove home at night. I was holding her in the car. As we were driving it was a long road so we were going fast, we noticed too late this turn off that was new and so we ended up spinning out of control and the dog flew from my hands. My dad eventually got the car in control and luckily the only thing damaged was the bumper. I thought we lost her, but she was fine. Flash forward to having her, she became the hope. She is a terrier crossed with many things we still are unsure haha, she is rough looking but in the cutest way. Her name is Oreo as she’s black all over with a stripe down the middle, and she just turned 5. We had a scare a few years back where she ran away, and I thought something bad was going to happen to her, but she just ran so much that she tired herself out and passed out somewhere and then was found later by someone, and we got her from the vet and she was perfectly fine. She is the most unique dog I’ve ever met, as she acts like a little human. She knows certain words, eats food with me, she whines when she isn’t getting attention and when she needs help even though she could do it herself hehe. She’s thoughtful, caring, loving and I see her as my baby. She sleeps under the covers next to me and every morning she waits until I’m awake and then licks and jumps on me. Sometimes I fake I’m still asleep so I can sleep in but she knows. She also is obsessed with food, especially meat pies and cheese. Everytime we talk about getting food she jumps on us and hugs us which is her way of sucking up haha. Basically she is the light of my life, very intuitive and loves humans more than dogs. She brought our family close after everything that happened and puts smiles on our faces everyday.

A one of a kind mutt!
I love my animals; I love cats. They are smart, independent, and have a unique personality. But I never thought in a million years I would ever consider getting a dog. It's funny how animals come into your life. But my dog Rozi came into my life for an extraordinary reason. The year was 2009, and things weren't going well. It was 2009 when the recession happens, and employment was going down. I was working at a temp job that I loved so much, and I was great at it, but I wasn't able to get a permanent position. (I won't mention the name of the company, but I will say the job was desktop publishing.) I got told that many were going to get laid off. That very night my mom came home with a new puppy (Rozi). I wasn't thrilled about the puppy because I was a cat person. Rozi wanted to be around me a lot, but I would just tell Rozi, "shoo, go away." Even my cat Amber (deceased in 2018) didn't like her and would swing at her. About two months Rozi and Amber became friends, and I started to like Rozi. She would comfort me when I would come home crying because I was getting close to getting laid off.

Sadie
I never meant to come home with a dog. Two years ago, while off on Thanksgiving holiday, I decided I was ready for a pet. I haven't had any animals since my divorce which was ten years ago. But, I knew I wanted a pet that was going to be easy to care for and not require more then a modicum of care. I was going to get a cat.

My touchable happiness
When I was a senior in high school, my dad brought a tiny Shih Tzu from an animal shelter. I named him 'Woogie' and I still don't know why. He said that he just went there because a friend of his asked him to tag along. But, when Woogie saw my dad, he straight ran into his arms and didn't let him go. It was not the ideal time for my family to have another addition and we all knew it, when my mom pointed it out, my dad said

My Charlie
My pet Charlie was a rescue dog. An animal loving friend -Debby, said her daughter had found him in a field wrapped in barbed wire. He must have bolted from somewhere but Deb and her daughter couldn't find where. They put an add in the paper and also let the pound know that they would keep him if no-one claimed him . And after three weeks no-one did so Deb kept him. She had another pet similar in size to Charlie and mated her with him. So before Charlie was even mine he was a daddy and happy about it.
