My pet Charlie was a rescue dog. An animal loving friend -Debby, said her daughter had found him in a field wrapped in barbed wire. He must have bolted from somewhere but Deb and her daughter couldn't find where. They put an add in the paper and also let the pound know that they would keep him if no-one claimed him . And after three weeks no-one did so Deb kept him. She had another pet similar in size to Charlie and mated her with him. So before Charlie was even mine he was a daddy and happy about it.
Deb couldn't have three dogs and Charlie had caught my eye and because My Mum had gone into a nursing home and I was all alone in the house we shared, Debbie, although she didn't want to part with him, knew he would have a good home with me. Charlie had come into my life.
There are many things I love about Charlie .He has an adorable way of tilting his head in the morning when I say "FOOD" and he does the same head tilt the other way when he hears the word "WALK" from me. I'm sure he wants to talk to me his nose sniffs one way for yes and the other for no and when I ask him a question that might be rhetorical I'm sure he's saying "WELL" with one sniff upward.
He dreams too . and gets into the most contorted positions. In his dreams he sighs, talks and whimpers even . I normally wake him up if he is having bad dreams and shakes a bit in them. The Vet I went to said Charlie may have a slight motor neuron problem and to keep an eye on it .
Charlie has a beautiful face . He looks a little like The Luck Dragon in The Never Ending Story ,only cuter. He is white with what I would call Caramel markings and a beautiful face ,with exceptionally expressive, big round dark brown eyes. He has long eyelashes and a sweet black pixie nose. His ears are like his breed should be a Maltese with possibly some other bread ,possibly King Charles Cavalier . And boy are his ears a problem. They need regular cleaning with an antiseptic fluid .
Charlie loves his grooming days. His friendly nature endears people and when he is groomed he fairly laps up the attention. He knows he will get doggy treats and say hello to some new aquaintances or old . I can leave him in the capable hands of the groomers and when I see him again he knows he is either going for a walk or getting a new toy... talk about spoilt
But he is worth it . He is my sounding board .When I cant figure something out. I talk to him out loud. And he lays or sits and listens. If I get too flustered he will jump on my lap to cheer me up and give me kisses. He is very patient with me and is like a therapy dog in that regard.
His favourite toy got broken recently . If he went for a jaunt, ( in other words bolted for a free run)I would call him with it . It was a bunny with a motor in it . He was never allowed to have it only listen and it use to say in a Bugs Bunny voice "Somebody Loves You" It only took one time for him to get it in his mouth that it broke . I had to get it from him quickly so I distracted him with some doggy treats special ones with hemp seed oil in them .
Time has flown by having Charlie with me . I got him when he was nearly 3. Now he is nearly ten . My Luck Dragon has brought me my share of luck and peace of mind and I wouldn't be without him . I would have been very lost after my Mum died If it hadn't been for Charlie . And we still have quite a few years left together I hope.
