dog
It's no coincidence that a dog is a man's best friend; they're more faithful than most other animals, and more faithful than many people.
In Praise of My Chihuahua
Not so long ago I lived alone. Not the “single and ready to mingle” kind of alone, the empty nester kind of alone. The kind of alone where you know a lot about people and relationships and you don’t forsee putting either one into your life just to not be alone anymore.

My Sweet BabyGirl
Hello beautiful, it’s only been a few days since you left, but I miss you so much. You were always there for me when no one else was. When no one even noticed I was hurting, but you always knew. You’d come piter pattering into my room and jump onto the bed and snuggle into the covers with me. Staring at me with those big eyes that told me everything would be okay.

Duke, Daisey, Diesel
Duke Duke, Daisey, and Diesel are our Danes. Yes, I know what you're thinking. They're so small how can they be Danes. Well Daisey is 5 months old, Duke is 4 months old, and Diesel is only 2 months old. Our original plan was to only get Duke and man did that plan change fast. We found Duke around the end of July and were supposed to pick him around the end of August. While the time was going by to when we were going to go get Duke, the thought of breeding Great Danes came into our minds. So, we started looking for a Dane that we could breed with Duke. Keep in mind we knew nothing about breeding. We just thought as long as they're not in the same litter then we could breed them. We were looking for any Dane that was healthy and we thought would be a good fit with our family. After looking for a while, we found Daisey who was up in Minnesota. We live in southern Illinois, so it would be a ten-hour drive to go get her. Well we felt that she would be worth it, so in one day we drove to Minnesota, picked her up, and then came home. Mac and April were wondering what she was and what she was doing in their home. April soon realized that she was another female that she could play with and teach to be like her. Mac on the other hand gave her the cold shoulder, wanted nothing to do with her, and would not share any of the toys with her. If you haven't picked up on Mac yet, he liked when he was an only child and isn't a fan of change. We got Daisey in early August and not long after her we were driving down to southern Missouri to get Duke. He was beyond lazy. This caused April to not want anything to do with him because he wouldn't play with her, Daisey could care less who he was as long as he napped with her, and yes, Mac didn't like him because he would try to lay on him.

5 Helpful Tips For First Time Pet Owners
Welcoming a pet into your home for the first time is an exciting step. When you think about it, you probably picture sunny morning walks with your dog or your cat purring in your lap as you read a book and drink a cup of tea. Having a pet can be one of the most lovely and rewarding experiences, but it can also be nerve-racking and scary.

Chloe Spoodle
Chloe didn’t start with that name, she was a little bundle of fur who couldn’t get upstairs without help and loved to be in the middle of games as my 4-year-old daughter played on the floor, bounding right through the middle. She started out as Daisy, Maggie, Flower then Lilly and finally we settled on Chloe, who was a spoodle or cockapoo. A cocker spaniel and mini poodle mix and she was the runt of the litter, in fact the last one left out of 8 when I saw her, tiny and cuddly. I had been sent to the breeders to bring home a hypo-allergenic golden doodle but when I saw how big there were at this farm, I asked for something smaller.

So You Want To Own A Corgi Huh?
Eventually I knew if I ever got a Corgi, I would totally at some point spam the internet with his amazing good looks. Truthfully Morty has changed my life in a lot of ways that I don't think the average person would ever truly understand. In my previous blog post I mentioned being diagnosed with Bipolar Type II, and my struggles with mental health in general. So eventually I made it my goal to get a dog that would fit my "forever home" narrative.

My Four Legged Best Friend
This story actual begins 8 years ago, on November 3rd, 2012. For weeks I had been searching for a four legged friend to keep me company at home while my soon to be husband worked all day, everyday. I came across a post on Craigslist for free 5 week old Miniature Pinscher Puppies. I reached out and found out there were still puppies left so I set out for a 3 hour drive 3.5 months pregnant to snatch up one of these adorable pups. I get to the persons house and find a sweet little boy. He was so tiny he could fit in the palm of my hand. I was so excited about our new addition to our little family that I drove to the Vet clinic my husband and his sister worked at as groomer/bathers for their mom. I walk into the clinic and introduce this sweet pup to his new dad and "yaya" and Aunt. They were all very happy to see this little pup. Shortly after this the head Veterinarian of the clinic sees him and asks how old he is and I tell him he's 5 weeks old. The vet then tells me that I was misinformed because his eyes just opened which makes him only 3 weeks old and that he should still be suckling on mom. Shocked I ask what I can do for him and am told Goats Milk. We say by to everybody and proceed back home a few hours away then to the store where I pick up some Goats Milk for him. Then proceeds the journey of bottle feeding a puppy every 1.5-2 hours. This poor puppy didn't have his mom to teach him and didn't really have a name for a few weeks either. It wasn't until he was about 5-6 weeks old that he earned his name, Rambunctious Rascal, because he was barking at an empty water bottle. I taught Rascal everything including walking on a leash, wearing a collar, tricks, staying in a crate when I left, and so on and so forth. Fast forward to April of 2013, Rascal welcomed his little Sister to the family. They played and grew together and had tons of fun. About a year later Rascal tore his ACL after slipping on ice in the winter time, and then the other ACL a little over a year later. He became my Emotional Support Animal shortly after that when we realized he was helping my anxiety and depression better than the meds I was taking. Unknowingly, I got him a vest, patches, and special ID Cards and Leashes showing him as my ESA, before I learned none of those things are needed for ESAs. Here we are in 2020 Rascal is my four legged best friend, My comforter, and helper. He is 8 years old now and hard as I try I can't get him to lose weight, he's arthritic, and has hip dysplasia. If none of these things were an issue he could've become my Service Dog. But that's a topic for another story. My best friend and first kid, Rascal, My heart and Soul.

Time Loops & Rabbit Holes
Did you know that sometimes we can pick up on energy from different time lines? For instance, ever have a day where you just feel off but you can’t quite put your finger on why you’re agitated/sad/anxious etc? As many empaths know sometimes this occurs when we’re picking up on someone else’s energy. But there are other occasions where no matter how hard we try to clear the energy, the feelings just won’t shift. That’s because the energy we’re picking up on is our own, but from another time! Perhaps a year, two years, or even 5 years ago! So in a sense it’s someone else’s energy because as Alice so eloquently said in Wonderland,

The Tails of an Anxious Dog
I watch as my owner starts to get ready to leave and as I watch her my anxiety rises. She going to be gone just a few hours but for me, it feels like years before I can see her again. She gives me a treat, pats me on the head, and walks out the door. Who knows when I will see her again. I discard the treat and bark at the door for an hour begging her to come back. I go into her bedroom to find the perfect palace to leave her a present. I sit down and let drop the biggest poop a dog has ever pooped. I do it out of spite because she could have taken me with her to work and she did not. She says if she could she would but if I went with her she would be in trouble. I know it’s a lie what place would not allow a cute fluff ball like me.
