Duke, Daisey, and Diesel are our Danes. Yes, I know what you're thinking. They're so small how can they be Danes. Well Daisey is 5 months old, Duke is 4 months old, and Diesel is only 2 months old. Our original plan was to only get Duke and man did that plan change fast. We found Duke around the end of July and were supposed to pick him around the end of August. While the time was going by to when we were going to go get Duke, the thought of breeding Great Danes came into our minds. So, we started looking for a Dane that we could breed with Duke. Keep in mind we knew nothing about breeding. We just thought as long as they're not in the same litter then we could breed them. We were looking for any Dane that was healthy and we thought would be a good fit with our family. After looking for a while, we found Daisey who was up in Minnesota. We live in southern Illinois, so it would be a ten-hour drive to go get her. Well we felt that she would be worth it, so in one day we drove to Minnesota, picked her up, and then came home. Mac and April were wondering what she was and what she was doing in their home. April soon realized that she was another female that she could play with and teach to be like her. Mac on the other hand gave her the cold shoulder, wanted nothing to do with her, and would not share any of the toys with her. If you haven't picked up on Mac yet, he liked when he was an only child and isn't a fan of change. We got Daisey in early August and not long after her we were driving down to southern Missouri to get Duke. He was beyond lazy. This caused April to not want anything to do with him because he wouldn't play with her, Daisey could care less who he was as long as he napped with her, and yes, Mac didn't like him because he would try to lay on him.
If you have ever been around a Dane puppy then you know how fast they grow. They're huge now and Mac loves to play with them. They play tug of war, chance either to steal the others stick, cause trouble together, and the list goes on. April loves to antagonize them and make sure they're all rowed up for the day. Duke and Daisey have the same relationship as Mac and April. They're attached at the hip and don't do anything without the other.
Now to Diesel. After getting Duke and Daisey all the shots and preventatives that they needed the vet informed us that breeding Duke and Daisey could cause their puppies to have problems. So, Duke is a harlequin and Daisey is a type of lilac harlequin. Harlequin is the type of coat they have and it is a recessive gene. Having the recessive coats is what makes them not compatible to breed together. Now we needed to find a dog who was dominate, but for us it just about the breeding, we want a dog who will fit in our family as well. So, we looked and looked and looked. I finally found a boy who would a perfect fit to our family. He was on the other side of Kentucky which was an eight-hour drive there. So, two weeks ago we drove out there and picked up our baby Diesel. Duke, Daisey, April, and even Mac instantly loved him.
You have met the clan now! Do not go away yet because we always have exciting news right around the corner!
