dog
It's no coincidence that a dog is a man's best friend; they're more faithful than most other animals, and more faithful than many people.
Whisper
I have been a lover of dogs ever since I was a young girl. Some would say I was dog crazy or obsessed. I prefer the term enthusiast. In elementary school, I would ask my granny to sew dog patches on all my pants. There is picture evidence to this day. My second-grade school picture is a whole-body shot versus a headshot. On the flare of my bell-bottom jeans is a dog patch resembling Lassie. In middle school, all my art projects or writing assignments were about dogs. When asked to design a cool catchphrase using a clipart, later to be made into a wearable button pin, I chose the phrase “Dogs Rock!” The clipart I chose to accompany the phrase was a dog in sunglasses playing the guitar. Of course, I wore the button pin on my bookbag. My folders and binders all had pictures of dogs on them. In seventh grade, I cried in class when we read “Where the Red Fern Grows.” My middle school yearbook is full of signatures along the lines of, “Keep loving dogs!” or “H.A.G.S. crazy dog lover!”

The Forest Dog
Born into a world of uncertainty, there were only two things that I was certain of as a child: my superb ability to play pretend and my dog, Sam. I was an only child, and in addition to that, I was a nervous child. Always hiding behind my father when he’d introduce me to his friends or crying out the day I was dropped off at preschool. I mostly lived inside the worlds that I created within my mind. And I retreated even further into those worlds when my parents got divorced when I was 4 years old.

Adventures of a Mushroom Forager
“How soon can you be here!?” This was the urgent message I’d just received from the vet after sharing a photo of a 2 inch mushroom stalk. I pulled the slobbery stalk out of this half Border Collie, half Golden Retriever’s mouth after he’d just engulfed the cap of a white mushroom. A lot can happen in 8 seconds.

Poochie, True King of the North
I heard voices in the distance. I heard people talking. Their voices became loud and then louder. My eyes widened, and boom – ten slobbering dogs running full speed whilst pulling a sled of three permanently smiling humans, came rushing around the corner of the dog mushing trail. Poochie and I were fifteen feet away and trotting.

Moose
You thought this was a story about a dog named Moose didn’t you? Actually, my dog’s name is Pebbles. Gotcha! Pebbles is my 8 year-old chocolate lab who loves to take adventures with me. She was originally training to be a hunter and to fetch fallen ducks. But guess what? My bred-for-hunting lab is afraid of the water. Her failed hunting career doesn’t discourage me tho; she’s still the best companion I could ask for.

A Life Unleashed
It is quite a challenge in itself to pick and narrate a single experience that my dog and I have made together. The first time we met was a silhouette of a puppy with the sun shining on his back that came trotting into our construction garage, with ears flopping and big paws flopping. Someone had abandoned him...at least that is what I believed before learning about all of the planting that goes on in our lives.. He looked like a shiny coated black Labrador, but also had a curled tail and spotted tongue like a chow.

Duchess … my 1st Animal Angel
As a child, my “gifts” sometimes scared or confused me. Being a natural born medium, spirit, angels, and beings of all kinds seemed to be everywhere. Since most were foreign to me, and no one else could see them, their presence tended to make me nervous or uncomfortable.
