Not Meant for Me
What do you do when gifted the opportunity to solve a majority of your troubles, at the cost of the well being of a stranger? It is a question many of us are sure we know the answer for, do not harm another for your own benefit. However, when the choice presents itself, it is a troublesome decision to deal with; as it is often difficult to let go of a chance to alleviate our own pains. But the nobility of one's heart will many times win out, and endure the hardships of life in order to ease the aching of a kindred struggling spirit.

Magicians
Iridescent blue and inky black. The shield of feathers, Crow wears on its back, fractale into one another ; transfiguring the shape of the body. Watch the choreography on the cracking driveway ; the crow tweaking its head. See it waddle forward and bow in a dance. Pricking up dust with a toenail beat... I follow the jump-skip. I draw lines between Crow’s eyes and mine. Watching. Staring. Stopping.

Silvered Eyes
Each morning when I left for my day shift at the drug store, a white cat waited outside the apartment complex. I lived in a suburb with clusters of buildings, so I didn’t pay the cat much attention early on: its fur wasn’t dirty or matted, it didn’t meow to try and get my attention, and it looked fairly well-fed if its puff of a belly was any indication. The only thing that made me note it from the other strays I had seen was that it sat in one place and stared long after I had passed with my bike. Sometimes its eyes even shifted from yellow to silver when I looked back.

Hope From Another
He wore a pristine black suit. It was perfectly tailored to his physique. White shirt, pressed, starched, not a wrinkle in sight. Blue tie, bright, but not flamboyant, and subtlety cascading into the colors of the rich black jacket. Flawless, it was spectacular. He had spent the entire previous night shinning the shoes until they glossed a perfect reflection. Sitting in the hotel room he had lost himself in the memories as he blankly stared at those shoes, eloquent executive wingtips. And he had polished, and polished. Clean the dust off, dry, shine, oil, shine, oil, shine. Rhythmic work, repeatable work. His memories took him to his previous years, in the arms of his young bride, his lover.

How Locals Negotiate the Dangerous Australian Wildlife
It can’t be denied that some of the world’s most deadly creatures can be found in Australia. Sharks lurk in the ocean. Snakes are numerous and bountiful. Spiders are big and scary or small and deadly. Saltwater crocodiles and box jellyfish rule some parts of the land. Even the kangaroos can pack a deadly kick if aggravated.

Be kind to your veterinary staff
Tonight, I’m working one of my two swing/overnight shifts a week. I’m doing what I love. I’m a veterinary technician at an emergency hospital, and helping animals is my passion in life. This job is one of the most fulfilling jobs I can do, and I fully intend to continue taking care of animals in some aspect for the rest of my life.

Kitty the mushroom Hunter
Sometimes the world just needs to slow down. I’m no technophobe. I love the immediacy of texting, and Instagram as much as the next person, but there is no denying the way a quiet, disconnected, walk in the forest soothes the soul. Especially if there’s a chance money can be made on that walk.
