The Importance of a Barncat
Wren’s brother came in from feeding the cattle holding his arm at a funny angle, away from his body, as if his elbow hurt him. Even as she opened her mouth to ask, he put a finger to his lips. “I brought you something,” he spoke quietly, then grimaced. “But I’m going to need help. He’s nervous. Here, hold my sleeve shut.”

The Shark That Could Dance
*Disco music playing in the background* It’s story time. There once lived a shark that could pull at our mesmerization and tell us new truths. His name is Eddie and whoa is a great dancer. He’s a cool guy that needs the praise. The depths of the ocean aren’t enough for him. Although many of the other ocean creatures are hip and all on the hop they don’t compare to this shark and Eddie is one to accept his worship. He’s fluent in ballet, tap, the tangos, and choreography but many reject him due him being the only one of sharks that can do it all and is the only one that is prominent in his actions.

A Home for Oreo
The warmth of his mother and his mewing siblings greeted the tiny black and white ball of fur into this world, along with the smell of old hay on the dirt floor and wood nearly a century old with surprisingly little rot and termites for its age. He mewed and rolled from his back onto his tummy, latching onto his mother for the sustenance of her warm milk just as his only-slightly older brother and sister had done. Once they had their fill the mews subsided as they snuggled as one into peaceful slumber.

Life with a reactive dog
Dogs are renowned for requiring lots of time, work and patience however when you have a reactive rescue dog the amounts needed are more than doubled. These animals have more complex needs and thus require so much more understanding and time patience than most dogs. Many reactive dogs are rescue dogs and often their past experiences are not known meaning that we cannot predict the way in which they will react to different situations. Having rescued a very nervous and dog reactive dog two years ago this is something that has been reinforced with every new situation we have experienced. Some he has found extremely enjoyable whereas others he found stressful and was incredibly reactive. Over time we have enjoyed many good times as well as many situations from which we have learnt. Dogs need chance to overcome their issues and in order to be given this chance they need love and understanding. Despite this need for love a strong leader is also required of the handler as they need to teach the dog to look to them for reassurance and guidance.

My lockdown buddy
My Lockdown Buddy In February 2020 I got the keys to my new home after splitting up from my partner. Having lived with partners and flatmates all my adult life this was to be my first experience of living alone! What an adventure! Except that I wasn’t alone. I had my cat - my beautiful little princess, Sheema.

Animals Can Heal
In the United States, pets are extremely loved. According to a 2015 poll, 95 percent of owners consider their pet to be a part of the family. About half of the owners buy their pet birthday presents. I am a part of that statistic and gave my dog a birthday and Christmas present before she passed.

I Think I Need a New Helmet
The horse under me leaped into the air, then took off in a galloping blind fear toward the wooden rail fence on the opposite side of the arena. I clung on, grasping the reins, trying to turn the gelding and stop the impending wreck, but he was turned only by the unmoving fence. I flew over his shoulder as he dug into the dirt with his heels and slid forward. I hit the rails with my head and crashed to the sand, seeing only thrashing hooves above me, which I twisted my body desperately to avoid, trying to crawl quickly out of the way. At least he tried to avoid me in his scrambling as he got himself turned around, so he could keep bucking riderless to the other nd of the arena where he finally stopped.
