All suffering will be equal.
How does one endure the politics of the barnyard? The constant dealing with other gander, to the vexation of the squeal of the swine waddling in the filth of the mud. The sheep complaining over the oppression from the sheepdog doing their “Tender,” shepherds bidding, to the vexation of the roosters' call at some ridiculous hour in the morning. Oh, if only there was some way to deal with the barnyard shenanigans! Oh, woe to us! Many could relate, I’m sure!

A Barn and a Gray Mare
A story should have a beginning, a middle, and ultimately an end. I never wanted our story to end. I knew was coming and dreaded it every day. Now our story ended almost three years ago. I feel as if it is all just a bad dream. I miss her, my best friend. My shelter from the storm, my rock, my sanctuary. Our story began when I was only 14. My dad bought her for my 15th birthday. He never anticipated that a birthday present would save my life. A $2500 horse not specially bred, just a breeding stock paint, a simple Gray 4-year-old mare would end up saving my life. She is just a horse. Just a horse named Sunfish.

Misha
This is Misha. She is not my pet; not my belonging. She is my companion, my muse, my beloved family member. A rescue cat, her life had a difficult start. I try not to think too much about her life before as it saddens me to think of someone treating such a sweet-natured little creature so harshly, but her fear of humans and just about everything else suggests that she was far from as adored as she is now.

Friends
I was tired and worn out. I had spent the day doing chores, being around people, and I just had to get away for a bit. This old barn was my favorite hideaway. Found on the back part of our acre property, it totally looks like it doesn't belong in a suburban area. Mom liked the house and lot because it was on a street lined with similar houses. Dad liked it because this acre lot was odd shaped with this old barn far in the back near the boundary of our property. The lot was almost a rectangle with chopped off corners. From the sky, our lot looked more like a diamond, with the biggest corner lining the street.

Funny Face
It was a pretty ordinary start to the day, I got up as usual around 4 a.m, got my shower, got dressed and ready for work, grabbed coffee to go, walked over and opened the door to leave and as I always do, I turned and grabbed the knob to the front door, closed and locked it. As I started turning to go to my car, I had to literally jump over a brown paper box sitting about two feet away from the door, I then clumsily toppled down the 4 steps onto the lawn and caught myself, but landed on my hands and knees! As the pain set in, out of my mouth came "OWWWW, DAMMIT" very loudly, as I paused to collect myself, then I rolled around and sat down on my tucas and stared for a minute at the box that just caused me to do the flying swan onto my front lawn. It was the size of a large shoe box that was neatly wrapped with plain brown paper. I decided to get to my feet, and investigate said box. I picked it up thinking "did I order something I forgot about"? I noticed it wasn't really heavy and upon picking it up, I immediately felt something moving inside, I freaked out a little and almost dropped it, but decided to quickly put it back down. As I stared at it, I heard a tiny scratching sound coming from the brown paper box, it was the sound of something small and alive, but what could it be? All I could think was "God, please not a rat, I am not fond of them".

The Graduation Present
He awoke at first light and flung his arm over the edge of the bed in a panic and felt for her. She was where he had left her the night before. She had not stirred nor moved. He pressed his face against the pillow with all the hope and dread of the world joined in an infinite second and laid flat his palm to her belly and cast aside his atheism to approach prayer. Her soft fur rose and fell, briefly and shallow but a breath at that. He looked over the bed and stared longingly at her and she on her side half turned her head to meet his gaze and ask of him what he wanted.

Owning Pet Rats
I decided to become a rat mum on a whim. I realized later that this was not a mistake per se, but I probably would have benefitted from doing my research before making the two-year commitment my boys would ensure. Just because they are a little pet, rats are not by any means low maintenance. I found this out the hard way.

To My Jet
My Beloved Jet: Do you remember when we meet each other? I don't know how could I explain how much I’m admired at you by the first time I saw you at home. You're very serene, polite, obedient and a smart cat ever seen before. Some of the people consider “special” to those who have cats, and they have reason, since the day I got you, I have felt so special to have you by my side. And also you are so special. You are so amazing. You have become my best friend, my muse and true love (Sorry to my boyfriend) for a few days.
