Archie-bold and truly gritty
Archibald was a scruffy little puppy when we brought him home, he couldn't have weighed more than a pound when he met his new brother and I. Bruno, my 65 pound mutt and farm dog extraordinaire, took this little scrap of a puppy under his wing unenthusiastically at first. As cute as he was, Bruno wasn't the only one with doubts, little Archie had big pawprints to fill to say the least. Bruno had been my best friend and favorite adventurer for a long time, he was serious about his job and explored every inch of trail with all he had. If we're talking size, he had alot more than the tiny ball of scruff looking up to him.

Bastion's Halloween
My best friend and I had our absolute favorite adventure, our first Real Halloween, the year he turned 12. I was born into a traumatic household, but Bastion was adopted into it. I had already endured eight and a half years with my mother by the time Bastion came into my life. He was a bought and paid for American Kennel Club registered Labrador Retriever. He was originally intended as a “buttering up” gift for my new step-father thought Mother put it as “hunting dog and companion”, but my mother hardly ever means what she says. They had been married less than 3 months and had already had some serious fights about her lack of responsibility, so her solution to distract from her behavior was to make a dramatic show of helping my step-father find the dog he’d always wanted. The idiot fell for it and it became the dynamic for our lives from that time forward. As long as she went slow, had excuses and kept him happy, she could get away with everything short of murder.

How To Choose Your Adventure Kitty
If you read my first blog post, you know that my journey from a Georgia stray to a well-traveled adventure cat was not an easy one. My previous owners tossed me out into the winter cold to fend for myself. But, this act of cruelty connected me with the missus I now have who takes me with her on her travels.

LIFE UNLEASHED
Life Unleashed My father got a dog when I was 8. I remember he brought him to my grandma’s house, he was tied up to the back door. He was only a puppy at the time. I remember he had a small body and a big head with big ears. When I first saw him, he looked at me and turned his head, ya know the way dogs do when they are confused. He was the cutest animal I have ever seen.

Ruby and Mariah
After we euthanized Jezzie, our seventy-pound Australian Shepherd, adopted nine years earlier, my husband Ralph decided he wanted another Aussie. I found one online at the Wenatchee, Washington no-kill shelter. We drove from Lakewood, Washington across the mountains to see her in person.

Rescurers
Oza was part German Shepard, part Lab, maybe a pit bull. Whatever she was after she had gotten pregnant, she was discarded. She was taken to the Humane Society with her belly full of pups. She had given birth to 9 pups. All pups were beautiful and healthy. It's just that Oza's previous owner could not handle keeping any of the pups and was angry at Oza for engaging in fornication on her front lawn. The pit bull had jumped on her and pinned around Oza's haunches.

Every morning I wake up in a house overlooking 500 acres of central Texas land that I manage called Valkyrie Ranch. As I drink my coffee and look outside, I see something different every day. This land is an exotic game ranch dedicated to preserving various types of animals that would otherwise be extinct (or heading in that direction) in their natural habitat, such as Piere-Davids, blackbuck, oryx, wildebeest, fallow, etc. Most of them roam freely around the property; some are in their enclosures - for their safety and ours. Working with them can be one of the most rewarding occupations, but it can also be one of the most heartbreaking.
