A Boy named Blu
I truly believe that dogs are a gift sent from above, they’re our companions, they’re loyal, forgiving, understanding, kind, trustworthy and they’re our best friends. Their whole life revolves around us, and they love us with their entire heart and soul. We are their family, and they are ours, and that’s exactly the way it’s supposed to be.

Remy
I never expected to love anything as much as I did the minute that I met Remy. The day feels like the first day of my real life, like everything before it was just a dream, that every memory that led up to that day was just imagined. It is so interesting to think about how quickly your life begins to matter- that your heart feels whole when you didn’t even know that it was missing a piece before that moment. That is exactly how I felt thinking about the moment I met Remy. His short fawn coat, soft brown eyes, and floppy ears made up the perfect image of the dog that I once dreamt of having.

A KENNEL
CRUSTY ARTISAN BREAD, FRESH FRUIT, BOILED EGGS AND AMARETTO SPIKED COFFEE set before me by my own hand in lieu of a plan to be drawn however slowly throughout the morn. I needed to draft a business outline. The farm took a sudden veer in this alternate direction. It must become a kennel. "It is not enough to designate as farm in any manner which the board can find fit. What you can do is have a kennel... or something along that line. Maybe you should plan a hobby farm...worms or something." The mocking tone of the county zoning officer echoed in back of my mind as I rushed through numbers pressed onto newsprint and catalogs. I traced out a basic format on copy paper listing purpose and starting a list of itemized means. We had a truck and were expecting a trailer to be delivered to our purchase point some hundred and fifty miles south. Kennel cages and kennel fencing would cost a pretty penny but if we got a few before heading out to the land we could make it work. There was no building on the land handed down through family and sold to me as the only interested party, but I had a house plan that included room for a detached kennel and kennel run. The best thing about it all was the openness of the area. There was a bird aviary off in the distance, about a thousand feet out from our spot. There was also a small wooded area littered with evergreen... Northern Pine of a tree farm. The closest neighbor. an older couple with a brick house situated on the corner of the main roadway, was one thousand feet in the opposite direction. The older couple were acquainted with my grandparents and were actually anticipating our arrival as new neighbors. I made note of the perfect fit of such business to the area.

Meeting Remy
Misha passed away in July. She was old, a beautiful, sweet little girl. Well, not so little. She was a german shepherd, bloodhound mix, about 120 pounds and taller than me. But she was strong and loving and gentle, and passed away from cancer in her sleep.

Twins Reunited Under a Gemini New Moon
Once upon a time, in a land far far away…well more like 3 hours away off a highway in Delano California, there lived twin Doberman-Greyhound puppies named Hansel and Gretel who were left abandoned on the side of the road. Their rescuers cleverly named them Hansel and Gretel after the classic fairy tale of the famous lost twins. I was lost myself (more emotionally than physically) and found myself at the Dobies and Little Paws Rescue in hopes of volunteering to help man’s best friend and forget my troubles. The same day I went to volunteer was the same day Hansel and Gretel arrived at the rescue. The moment I saw them, I knew we would all be a family. At the time, I couldn’t imagine how this could possibly unfold. I had currently moved back in with my dad and had quit my job to help him take care of stepmom who had had two strokes. Not exactly the ideal situation to have one giant dog let alone two. Yet, I had a very strong feeling I couldn’t shake that we would be together.

A Second Chance for Him and For Me
The worst year of my life to date was 2017. Simply, 2017 sucked. I was depressed, lonely, gaining stress weight, tired all the time, angry at nothing and numb to everything. I was hurting, badly, both emotionally and spiritually, and there was no one who was going to resue me from that. I was drowning in school, taking on too much responsbility at work, not investing my time into lifegiving friends and having a crisis of faith. It was terrible.

There is a CHANCE that he's going to run away.
To be honest, I have been waiting to make this “joke” for so long, but now I have to explain the joke. My dog’s name is Chance. I don’t know who he was named after and why he was named after that thing or person. All I know is that my dad had named him, and after a few years of having Chance, my dad has left. He left our family behind, my sister, my mom, but the person, well animal, who was hurt the most by his departure was my dog. Chance was heartbroken. Of course, he didn’t come up to me and tell me that, but I could. We all could see it behind his cheery smile, the feelings of devastation. Chance gets so excited every time my dad visits and acts like a puppy again.

Dog Daze
Finnegan was a rescue times two over when I got him. He started his life in an abandoned row home in Philadelphia and his first rescue had never owned a dog. She wasn't a bad person. She just didn't realize the needs of a dog. It took awhile, but I finally convinced her to give Finn to me. I was told that he wasn't good at obeying and was a runner if he got lose.
