Things I Learned Working in a Vet Office (Pt. 1)
Every pet owner has to make a visit to a veterinary office at some point, whether it's for vaccines, spay/neuter surgery, illness, or an emergency. One of the first things I noticed as an employee is just how many people don't actually know what the vaccines are and why they are important. There are two types of vaccines for cats and dogs: Core vaccines and non-core vaccines. A core vaccine is recommended for all animals of a species no matter their lifestyle. Non-core vaccines are suggested vaccines based off of the potential the animal has of exposure.

Companionship
All my life, I grew up with a dog. Since before I could remember I had a furry best friend and now I don't have that in my life. When I was a baby my parents got a Samoyed puppy that I instantly bonded with. I grew up with her by my side and if I ever had a bad day or I was sad she was always there to cheer me up. I have always had a special connection with animals because of the relationships I had growing up. I've lived in my own apartment for nine months now completely companion free. It has been a lot harder than I had thought it would be.

Puppy Journey: Renpet's Story
When people think of having a new puppy most imagine those cute little smiles, all of the cuddles given and received and the new energetic being that will tug at your heartstrings. When I bought Renpet these were the main reasons that I made the decision to get a dog. I even spent the previous night looking up the perfect name for her. Renpet is the Egyptian goddess of the new year, fertility, spring and the mistress of eternity. I felt that this name was best fitting because this year was going to be a new start. On the ride there I imagined the walks that we would go on and how I was going to dress her up in cute outfits I've made for her. I was told I was getting a Jackabee, but to this day I don’t know what her exact breed is. Her fur... Dad and I fell in love with her the moment we laid eyes on her. She was so small and her eyes were light blue. I went into the Petco and her fur daddy watched her in the car and when I returned, I saw him with her in his coat on his chest. She seemed so peaceful and loving, and most of all so innocent. Renpet wasn’t given the warmest welcome when I brought her home to my parents. After a while everyone warmed up to her. She never liked being in the crate and would bark all through the night. I tried to bring her upstairs to my bedroom so she wouldn’t be alone, but she would bite me too much.

The Love of a Golden Retriever
He was bought without a second thought. He was meant to be a gift for me to not focus on the pain of my past. To heal the wounds that I have buried inside of me. But in reality, he had healed more than just me. When he entered my life, he was small, slept on my lap the whole way home. Wasn't as excited as his siblings were when I was able to pick out the one I wanted. His tail had a little nub on the top from a little accident. I think it made him special. His ears were darker than the rest of his fur. He was my saving grace. I stared at him as the car headed towards his new home. He was precious, whining ever so slightly before curling closer to me. I held him the whole way, never knowing that I was holding my whole world.

Inspired by My Best Friend
My stepdad brought Rocky home from work when he and some co-workers spotted him and the rest of his litter running around on the streets of West Baltimore. When he walked through the door with Rocky, my sister and I were started crying like normal eight and 10-year-olds do. Once his paws touched the floor, he ran to me and we became best friends ever since.

Stop Killing Wolves and Start Aiding Dogs
We have long rejected the powerful species that is the wolves. We have used them and never re-payed them. They joined us long ago, and in turn we domesticated them into a species that is now known as the canine (dog). We have now rejected dogs as we now reject wolves. We must protect them as they have helped us. We must appreciate the work that wolves have done for us. They are not a threat to us, we are a threat to them. Humans claim to be the superior race, it’s time to act like it. We have brains, we are able to directly help animals in need, but instead we lead them into extinction. I see no superiority in that.

“We Don't Deal with Morals, We Deal with the Law”
This morning I set my alarm for half past four, and was out of the house before dawn. Not for work, but to go to a slaughterhouse in East London. I was going to bear witness to a truck carrying a cargo of broiler chickens.

My Roommate’s Kitty
My roommate has a Siamese cat named "Kitty." My roommate has a very vivid imagination when comes to naming his pets. Kitty used to sleep in the living room next to the big chair... that's in the living room. Now she sleeps on the foot of my bed every night. Kitty is a good kitty—except for when she's a bad kitty and tries to eat my phone's charging cable.
