Rescued
It was a rainy, cold afternoon, the wind was blowing, and it was definitely not a day that I wanted to go grocery shopping. It was one of those days that I could have stayed in bed all day, like many days. The struggle was real. Major depression was a part of my life, but I had to keep going, pushing myself to do even the smallest of task. I pulled myself together and headed out. What I didn’t know was a little miracle would come into my life that day.

9 Things My Cat Has Taught Me
Save a six year stint following the death of our first family dog, and a six month gap after losing our second one, I had never lived without a pet. I never identified as a cat or dog person—always just an animal person. That being said, if I HAD to choose, I would always pick dogs. I never owned a cat of my own, yet I would go out of my way to pet neighborhood strays, track down barn cats, and crawl under beds at my aunt’s to find her elusive cats. However, when the time came to move out of my parent’s house, I was forced the face the fact that I didn’t have the time nor space for a dog of my own, so I kept it in the back of my mind that I was going to get a cat once I was settled in.

Life With Roommates' Pets
I first met Jerry, the dog, when I rented a room in a house with two other females, Maureen and Carol. Jerry was a Shih-Poo (a mix between a Poodle and a Shih Tzu). Shih-Poo is an unfortunate name but hey, it kind of fit him. Yes, he was a cutie and I did like to pet him on occasion, but ew, did he smell! I would let him sit on my lap on occasion and pet him, but I would have to wash my hands for over 10 minutes just to get the smell off of me. It was like he smelled like a wet dog even when he was dry. So when he would go crazy and excited and run around the house, he left a scent wherever he went. He was Maureen’s dog, and she loved him like a little baby. As soon as she walked in the door, she would baby talk to him and he would bark and jump up and down that his mommy was finally home. Maureen once found an old broken dollhouse on the side of the road and put it in the front window in the living room so Jerry could jump on it and look out the window. He also took naps in it too.
