When Good Health Is Absent!

"When health is absent, wisdom cannot reveal itself, art cannot manifest, strength cannot fight, wealth becomes useless, and intelligence cannot be applied." - Herophilus

We know that in order to obtain success and prosperity in life, that making sacrifices are pretty much a necessity. We simply can't keep doing the basics, or maintain the life we are living, and expect to generate success and wealth for ourselves. Such rewards come from making changes, working hard, remaining perseverant, remaining patient, being resilient, and of course, giving up some things we enjoy and treasure in life. Many people actually make sacrifices, and truly believe they are giving up lots, in an attempt to create success and prosperity, and they wonder why they still can achieve the results they are looking for. The problem is, the majority of these people are actually sacrificing the wrong things. In order to generate some short term satisfaction, people refuse to give up things such as coffee dates with friends, or drinking nights out with friends, or watching Netflix, or watching their favorite television shows, or unnecessary shopping. It's not to say we can't enjoy these things, especially spending time with our friends, but it needs to be on a far less regular basis than what most people do. Then we have other people who will refuse to part with some assets, valuing them far more than the success and wealth they desire. Sometimes we need to sell off some assets to generate some extra cash for ourselves. Many business owners would know what I am referring to here, as we just need to do whatever is needed to generate some cash flow. Sacrifice is about giving up what we enjoy, along with the material things in life, and even time we would normally spend on ourselves. But there are a couple of things that most people sacrifice, all for the aim of creating success and wealth, that should never be sacrificed!

You may have heard the popular quote from Roman poet Virgil that reads "The greatest wealth is health"? This certainly wasn't just a comment made for attracting attention to himself, or just for the hell of it, it was stated with truth and fact! The greatest wealth we can indeed gain in life, isn't money, it's having good health. Health is an umbrella for many different aspects of our life, such as our happiness, our mental health, our sleep, our diet, our weight, our muscle development, our fitness level, and of course it has a massive bearing on the longevity of our life. When we talk of obtaining success and wealth for ourselves, what good are either to us if we are not healthy? How can we enjoy such rewards if we are restricted and limited by illness? This is exactly where most people who are chasing success and wealth go wrong! One aspect of life that people sacrifice, in order to gain success and wealth, is they give up quality time with their family, which is bad enough as it is. They spend excessive time at their job or within their business, all with the aim of becoming wealthy, leaving them with minimal time to spend with their family, ultimately leaving them to miss such great memories of their children growing up. One of the biggest regrets of those who are dying is that they should have spent more time with those they love, rather than having worked excessively. The other aspect people all too commonly sacrifice, is of course their health.

As I mentioned above, our health is made up of a range of different components, with the four most common aspects of health that people sacrifice being exercise, diet, sleep, and their mental health/happiness. The desperation to achieve success and wealth has people basically busting their arse off to reach that pinnacle as fast as possible. Some motivational gurus insist we hustle, and to do so means we need to go to bed late, get up early, and non-stop focus on work. The focus is all on achieving success, yet it comes at the expense of our health, and that's not success whatsoever. Success isn't determined by just one or two aspects of our life, such as finance and career, it means we are happy, satisfied, and fulfilled in all aspects of our life. Going to bed late and getting up early naturally means that we are sacrificing sleep, yet in sacrificing sleep we are negatively affecting our immune system in the process, as the body needs a certain amount of sleep to function accordingly. Over time, deprivation of sleep leads to health issues such as obesity, diabetes, heart disease, stroke, depression, and high blood pressure. The number one thing people will deduct from their daily schedule is their sleep, all in a bid to create extra hours in their day to get work done, so they can create that success and wealth they desire as fast as possible. The thing is, the workload never reduces in time, even after success and wealth are created. You don't just reach such great heights and then return to old ways, you want to keep going forward, generating more success and further increasing wealth. This means that the sleep amount never increases again, because it becomes routine, and that's not a good thing!

The second most common thing that most people sacrifice, in a bid to achieve success and wealth, is exercise. Many people don't see exercise as an important aspect of their daily routine. Perhaps they believe they walk around heaps at work as it is, so they don't need to exercise. For so many people, all they can fit in their day is to wake up, commute to work, work, drive back home, cook dinner, wash up, get their kids to bed, and get back to bed themselves. Such is the excessive amount of work people do, they allow no leeway to fit in anything else in their schedule. The truth is, there's always time, but people love to use the fact that they are too busy to do exercise, just so they don't have to exert energy to push their body to do a workout. It's basically laziness, but what this lack of will power is doing is increasing their risk of heart disease, obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes, and high blood cholesterol also. The third most common thing that most people sacrifice, in a bid to achieve success and wealth, is diet. This links in to a lack of exercise, as it's normally those who don't exercise who also maintain a poor diet. After a busy day, the last thing people want to do is come home and cook, then have to wash up, so what do they do? They buy fast food or quick meals. It's so convenient to pull into the drive thru at the local McDonald's, KFC, Hungry Jacks, or the like, and get a quick bite to eat. With the lack of motivation to cook when getting home, people will also avoid making their lunch for the next day, so what happens? Of course, it's a trip to the local delicatessen or fast food outlet again. All the while, their diet consists of fatty food, cholesterol, sugar, and carbohydrates, rather than the nutritious foods, such as vegetable and fruit, that the body needs. You guessed it, the results of a poor diet lead us to a higher risk of obesity, osteoporosis, high cholesterol, and high blood pressure.

Finally, the fourth most common thing that most people sacrifice, in a bid to achieve success and wealth, is mental health/happiness. For most people, it doesn't seem to matter what job they do in life, as long as they are receiving an income. They will stay at a job for years and years, hating it more and more each day, whilst gaining no work satisfaction whatsoever, and creating a mundane and unfulfilling lifestyle for themselves. They work so hard, and for long hours, to get paid barely enough to survive and pay the bills, yet they don't change. All the while, this continual lack of satisfaction and happiness leads many into depression, or even anxiety and stress, when their workload and targets continue to increase. It's fair enough we all need an income, but the majority of people don't work any old job in the interim, whilst they are pursuing their true passion in life, they just do it purely for survival. People actually sacrifice their own happiness just for the sake of money, when there are actually many other different options of legally generating money in life. For most people though, they just can't be bothered, it's too much effort. Meanwhile, they become unhappy, frustrated, annoyed, and even depressed, that they can't discover and achieve what they desire in life, and how they can't shape their future to their own design. Again, ongoing mental health issues lead to risks such as obesity, memory loss, fatigue, heart attack, and a weakened immune system, that all on top of the constant pain of unhappiness and suicidal thoughts.

It's plain and simple, success and wealth are meaningless when good health is absent! Sacrificing sleep, exercise, our happiness, our mental health, and our diet, should never be on the list of things we need to sacrifice in life, for the sake of success and money. Our health and happiness should always be the two biggest priorities in our life, because without these two, life is worthless. Absolutely, we should always be setting ourselves goals, always be working hard, and always be pushing ourselves to perform at our best, but at the expense of some of the short term satisfaction activities and some of our material assets, not at the expense of our greatest asset, which is life itself. Take the opportunity to think about your own lifestyle, and your current daily schedule. With the activities you do each day, are you really prioritizing your health and happiness, or are you really prioritizing your job and money? Look after yourself first and foremost before you go looking for for success and wealth!
