The power of positivity
How a little positive can go a long way

The power of positivity
The power of our minds is incredible. What we can do when we think a certain way is amazing.
We’re all guilty of letting this get on top of us and letting negativity spread from one area of our life to another. It’s part of being human but bringing it to your attention means you can begin to work on it and not let it lead to eating you up.
Positivity breeds positivity and negativity breeds negativity. That’s why you can’t have a negative mindset and expect positive things to be there.
There are many tips, tools and techniques to help you think positive. A simple google search leads to so many different ways you can help to boost your positivity. Here are a few ways to help boost your positivity to see if it’s something you would like to do more research into. The more we think positive, the brighter our outlook will be and the more we boost our emotional resilience. This can help us deal with minor bumps along the way with ease instead of them feeling like major hurdles we have to overcome.
One amazing technique is to name 3 things that went well during your day. No matter how bad your day was, 3 things even if they include just making it through the day, it’s a positive! Look for the silver lining on bad days no matter how small you think it is, it’s still a positive and they are there for us all to find.
Affirmations are also a useful tool. Single words, short phrases and full sentences can be used. Whatever works for you! The idea behind affirmations is repeating something over and over to yourself will lead your mind to believing it. So instead of ‘i can’t do this’ try ‘this isn’t easy but I won’t give up’. Your acknowledging it won’t be a walk in the park but by adding the positives of not giving up it can be a great way to boost your positivity. Remember to keep at it and repeat as many times during the day when you can.
Another tool is the balancing scales. Imagine a set of old style weighing scales. One side is positive and the other negative. Each negative thought adds a weight to one side and each positive thought adds a weight to the other. If we fill our lives and heads with negatives, the scales will never balance. If you notice negative self-talk, add a positive to it, check the facts (our emotions can lie to us!) or look for the silver lining.
Mindfulness and meditation are also great ways to ground yourself and clear a crowded mind. By taking 5-10 minutes to yourself you can really unlock your potential. The are a number of apps as well as websites and YouTube where meditation and mindfulness videos and tutorials can be found.
To-do lists are another help. You don’t need to remember it because it’s written down! Taking up less space in your mind and giving you a sense of achievement as you tick off your list.
2020 has been such a hard year for us with mental health services being stretched more than ever. The tips included shouldn’t be used instead of visiting your GP if your struggling but can be used alongside. There’s no shame in seeking help when needed.
Thinking positively won’t solve everything, but it’s a great way to help you begin to lift your spirits and bring more positives into your life. This in itself will lead to a boost in motivation as well as mood.
Even if it only helps a little it’s got to be better than nothing.
