Fear is one of the emotional states of mind that god has given us in order to protect us from any dangerous situation. Having fear in our minds is a good thing that we have received as a gift. Because of fear, we can able to survive by protecting ourselves from any fatal or critical situation.
Everyone has a perception that fear is not a good thing to have and they believe that it is the weak part of their life. Actually, having fear in some parts of life could be the strongest thing, and having fear in those parts of life where there is no need to get afraid is the weakest thing.
So one has to understand that fear may vary according to the situation. Not all fears are the same. Fear can be a good thing in some parts of life but the same state of emotion could be a bad thing in some parts.
No one in the world is not without fear and even animal does have this fear. Animals can able to survive in the forest only with the help of this state of mind. We sometimes tend to step back from doing some task because of having some kind of fear in our minds.
So fear is not a problem in our life but we need to understand in what situation we feel like fear in our mind. There could be a number of things where it is not required to be afraid but we feel like having fear unconsciously.
According to me, there are two types of fears that we face in our life:
Good fears:
These are those fears which help you to live a life by protecting you from dangerous situations. It operates on a subconscious level and whenever you are going to be in a dangerous situation, then it will protect you by guiding how to take action.
For example, you are waiting for a longer period of time for the bus and you have to reach the office on time. So you would be thinking that if the bus arrives, then you will board the bus at any cost even if it is too crowded. Finally, the bus arrived and it is too crowded. So now in the back of your mind, you might be thinking about getting onto the bus or trying to stand in the footsteps of the bus with the help of one foot. But at the same time, your fear restricts you to move forward because standing in the footsteps of the bus with the help of one foot would be a risk to your life as there is more possibility of you meeting with an accident. So in this case, you will not get on the bus but instead, you will find some safer way to reach the office even if you are reaching late.
Bad fears:
These are those fears which become a barrier for you to live a better and successful life. Due to this fear, you like to be in a comfort zone and will not be ready to accept any challenges that come to you as an opportunity for your growth. When you do not accept the challenges, the other person grabs the opportunity and finds out the way to success. You will still remain there in your comfort zone because of these bad fears which consist of negative thoughts and emotions.
For example, if you were asked to give an emergency announcement to the employees in your office based on the information received from the client but some kind of fear starts to develop in your mind and you will become nervous. You will start thinking negatively and there are a number of questions arise in your mind like how will you handle the situation, if you are stuck in between then you will get bullied, whether people will laugh at you when you were unable to present properly, and so on. These thoughts will develop a strong fear in your mind that you will step backward to grab this opportunity and you will find out the reason to avoid this opportunity and the other grabs it and move forward.
On the basis of the above examples, you can understand how good fears serve you and how bad fears are not serving you. The people who are on the growth path and have become successful in life, they tried to confront their fear and stepped out of their comfort zone.
Here are some ways that you can apply in your life in order to confront your bad fear and get ahead in your life:
Be Mindful:
The main important reason that we experience bad fear in our mind is because of not being mindful. Whenever we encounter any strange situation, we get numerous negative thoughts in our mind and due to this, we tend to develop strong fear in the mind once this fear develops, it backs us from facing the challenges.
So next time, when you face any challenging situation, then try to be mindful and try not to focus on negative thoughts that arise in your mind. In the initial stage, we find it difficult to be mindful because we have trained our minds in that way but over a period of time and with consistent practice, we will surely develop our mindset to handle and accept the situation.
Have a positive mindset:
Our mind tends to attract more negative thoughts because of the situation we have lived in since our childhood days and it has become our belief system. This belief system has been developed in our subconscious mind in such a manner that no matter how much we make our mind think in a positive manner, it doesn’t help us anyway.
In order to stop diverting our mind automatically towards negative thoughts, it is necessary to divert it towards positive thoughts. So in a practical way, you have to note down the positive quotes as per choice. You can write 10 or 20 positive quotes on the sheet of paper and stick these sheets of paper in those places where you usually see it on daily basis. It could be in your bedroom, wardrobe, bathroom, or in your vehicle also.
Try reading the positive quotes in your mind whenever you see these quotes on the sheet. It takes less than a minute and this minute will help you to change your life forever. When you continue to practice reading these positive quotes on daily basis, slowly you will see that your mind will not dwell on negative thoughts automatically. As your mind has now trained to dwell on the negative thoughts, you will not experience fear in any situation and you can handle any challenging situation in a brave manner.
Confront your fear with excitement:
Excitement and nervousness release the same kind of chemical reaction in our minds. So when you feel afraid to do something, then repeatedly tell yourself that you are very excited to do this thing. When you do this, you will see that your fear is gradually fading away and you can do the thing properly without having much more fear.
This is an excellent and quick trick that you can try whenever you feel nervous about doing something that you fear. For me, this method is working very well and it has bought up many opportunities I tried to confront my fear by saying to myself again and again that I am very excited.
Ready to accept anything:
Be ready to accept anything that fears you a lot. If you can notice the behavior of the kid, then you will surely observe that they do not hesitate in doing anything. They do not think that they are going to fail by doing anything but they get into action and learn the thing. Even the kids fail in the first instance; they try it again and again until they succeed.
When the kid grows as an adult, the belief system which gets developed in his or her mind will become a barrier to doing the thing that they fear a lot. So we should learn from the kid and should be ready to accept any challenging task in our life. We should be more curious about doing anything that scares us and over a period of time minds will be trained to accept the challenges and we will not fear doing anything.
