The Journey To The Mountain Of Success

Why Most Never Come Close To The Peak

By Dr. Cody Dakota Wooten, DFM, DHM, DAS (hc)Published 6 days ago 3 min read

I've been visiting family in the wonderful state of Colorado.

We were making the car trip to Pike's Peak today...

It is the mountain that inspired "America the Beautiful"...

And I was reminded of something I learned when I was younger.

When the settlers were making their way through the prairies...

They caught sight of the mountains.

Based on the smoothness of the ground...

And the height of the mountains...

They imagined that they would reach the mountains very quickly.

Perhaps within a few days.

But that is not what ended up happening.

What appeared to be smooth prairies...

Ended up becoming hilly...

And the hills just seemed to get larger and larger...

And the mountains did not appear to get closer.

What they believed would be a few easy days...

Turned into rigorous weeks...

And when they reached the mountains...

It was significantly taller than they imagined.

When many people think of success...

They encounter a similar problem.

Long before they are actually at the foot of the mountain...

They believe it will be simple...

Easy...

No problem.

But once they begin to move toward the mountain...

Again, not even starting the ascent...

They are already encountering issues...

Challenges...

Pains...

And they often grow...

Long before they are on the mountain.

The truth about success...

Is that most people give up without ever actually being on the mountain.

The journey to success does not start at the base of the mountain.

It starts with just the whisper of the mountain being visible.

Before you can get on the mountain...

You have to get to the mountain.

You may need to learn...

May need to build systems...

Find allies...

Get established...

Long before you even have the opportunity to be considered for success.

The journey is not easy...

There are many hills and challenges that exist...

Which you need to overcome...

Before you get to the base of the mountain.

But here is the thing...

Most people take these challenges as proof that they should not climb the mountain...

That they are not cut out for it...

Yet the truth is that this is a needed part of the journey.

If you simply arrived at the base of the mountain...

And tried to ascend...

There is a high likelihood...

That the challenge would be greater than you could handle...

With consequences you are not prepared for.

You need the early journey...

To travel through the plains...

And the hills...

Because they prepare you...

If...

And only if...

You continue forth.

But if you decide to turn away from the mountain...

You will begin a habit...

One that few people ever escape from...

The habit of quitting.

Where you turn away from any and all mountains of success...

Always when the journey hits its first few obstacles.

It is a simple life...

But one that many people end up regretting...

Because the call of the mountain of success is always visible to us...

The whisper of the mountain...

Calling...

Appealing to our potential...

That dream that calls out to us deep within our hearts and souls...

That so many never give themselves a true opportunity to fulfill in all of their days.

Mark this down...

Your time is limited...

There will be an end...

And it will happen significantly sooner than you believe it will.

The journey is not easy...

It is longer than it looks...

And you do need to get to the base of the mountain first.

But once you do?

The mountain becomes one of the greatest experiences of your life...

And the views...

Scenic...

Inspiring...

And Incredible.

As someone who grew up with the mountains I also know that the distance to them is very deceitful. Sometimes they are much closer than you think or see.
