The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

The meaning behind this girl's Dragon Tattoo

Dragon and Fairy Origins

Once upon a time, there was a little blond girl, who was shy and also an introverted kid. One day, at the age of eight or nine years old, she saw her Godfather on the tv!

"Mom", said the little girl "I want to do that! What Uncle Jimmy is doing" And she proceeded to point at the television. "What is 'that'?" Her mother asked. And the little girl stared blankly for a moment, then she shrugged her shoulders, for she had no clue what she had pointed to. She would make it her mission to find out what ‘that’ was, because she wanted to do it! When she got into high school, she had to choose a complimentary course, between 3 different things: Music, Drama or something else (she can’t quite remember, since many years have passed since she was in high school, but that’s a different story for another time). This now-not-so-little girl had chosen Drama, through process of elimination: She didn’t like the idea of music and playing an instrument, as she thought she would not be very good; the other course was something way harder, so, finally that left her with Drama. She also thought it was the easiest out of the three options. While she was in drama class, this blond not-so-little girl had learnt what her Godfather was doing on the television. He was doing something called acting. Once she had found out this tidbit of information, she made sure to take this course every year of her 5 years of high school.

When this not-so-little girl was 14 years old, she was told by her mother "You can't just wait for the phone to ring to be an actress, you need to put yourself out there!" Something ignited in this blond teenager’s mind – like a lightbulb turned on in her brain. This was when the transformation happened for her: She decided that her mother was right and that she couldn’t just expect “fame and fortune” to come to her – she decided that she would take a stand against her shy and introverted attitude; she was going to take the bull by the horns and follow through with this dream of hers! She had decided to make her own “limelight” and step into it! She rebranded and remade herself to be adventurous, outgoing and the opposite of shy! This took a lot of courage as on the outside she looked confident, brave, happy, but on the inside, she was quivering and shaking, but she continued this “new look” until it was second nature to her. This is the pivotal moment that she decided "One day, I'll get my Dragon Tattoo!"

When she needed to apply to a college, she chose the Professional Theatre Program at Dawson College, in Montreal Quebec. She was told by her classmates in secondary V that she wouldn't make it because she was too shy and she wouldn’t ever be able to make it as an actress like that, but her teacher had helped prepare this teenager for the audition, to get into the program of her dreams. She was obsessed with getting this Dragon Tattoo that she had spoken about it almost every week, to her best friend since she was 14 years old until she was 21! (That’s a lot of talking about a tattoo, if you ask me!) Finally, the day came when her best friend told her pretty much to stop talking about the tattoo because it was going to happen – and for the girl’s birthday, when she turned 21, she got her Dragon and Fairy tattoo, as shown above. This nice gesture was paid for by her best friend. The girl had gotten it custom made, by her older sister and it had to be perfect! The meaning of this tattoo is simple: The fairy represents the little girl (now not so little) and the Dragon represents the courage that she needed and found to be able to change from an introvert to an extrovert! The meaning behind the colors, are that purple is the favorite colour of this female, and green like the fairy wings are her second favorite colour. This journey of courage and strength that the little girl had to take to truly make it as an actor and model, is tattooed on her left shoulder blade, and she wears this journey with pride!
