We all want to live a better life, if our income is low, we want to make more, if our happiness is at a 4 we want to be at a 10, if our health is at a 7 we should strive to be a 10. That to me is the better life and I obsess and grab every opportunity, skill and inspiration I can find to create a better life for me and my family. My three tips for a better life are:
1. Don’t listen to other people – I know that sounds counterproductive, but how many times in your life have you had a passion, a desire or a dream and you share it with a friend, family member or employer hoping they will give you advice, guidance or pump up your confidence? but instead they deflate you, even if it wasn’t a slap in the face like some people do by telling you that’s a stupid idea, you’re a dreamer or you’re never going to get there, Many times in my life I have had people close to me try and crush my idea’s, dreams and confidence. There was a time in my life where I would allow this to affect me, pull me down, make me feel bad about myself and doubt my ability to succeed. The problem with asking people who aren’t qualified to give you advice is that its cumulative, they tell you today I’m not sure it’s the right time or tomorrow that maybe you should have back up plan or a week later they say I know it might work but I’m not sure it’s the right thing for you or its oversaturated and it’s the wrong time to do it. And it cumulates inside until one day you say maybe it’s not the right time, maybe I should put it on hold. How many times have you put something on hold for 6 months, a year or 5 years and you look back and realise how fast it has all gone by and you still haven’t achieved what you were wanting to? How many times have you listened to teachers, grandmothers or those wonderful great aunts? Don’t get me wrong they all come from a place of caring but sometimes they are guiding you based on their beliefs or the way they were bought up and what they feel is right. You start trying to please everyone but nothing happens because you end up staying stagnant, you’re doing just enough so that everyone who questions you feels like you’re getting by, but not enough to fill your heart and the passions to fulfil your dreams that will light up your life. As simple as this sounds, be careful who you listen to, be careful who gives you advice because at the end of the day you want to surround yourself with the people who are living the life you want, the happiness, the income and the health that you want. Interview these people, talk to them, read about them and watch listen to their stories because that’s where you will get your inspiration, that’s what will allow you to create your own success. You don’t need the feedback or gratification of other people. When you start gaining traction the right people will surround you while some of the wrong people will start to separate from you and as hard as that may be, at the end of the day this is your legacy to pass down future generations.
2. Devote time to self-education – A 2019 report has come out stating Apple, Google, and Netflix no longer require employees to have 4-year degrees, the reason for this is because they are after people with life experience, specialised knowledge and people who can devote time to educating themselves with an entrepreneurial mindset. Whether you have a degree or not, whether you’re past your university years or your thinking of going to study, university doesn’t prepare people for a life of abundance, it prepares people to live an okay life and to have generalised knowledge in a certain area, then you go on to work in that field and learn as you go. Over my life I have attended multiple masterminds, read many books, worked with many groups of people to attain success, all of these have had one thing in common and that is they are all providing specialised knowledge that have had proven results. As Tony Robins says, you can condense a decade of specialised knowledge into days just by listening to someone who has finetuned their success and failures, I don’t know about you but if I can learn how to generate success over a weekend, why would I spend years and thousands of dollars when I could get the information over a weekend and immerse myself in self education and specialised knowledge.
When I was younger I wasn’t really into school, I wasn’t that smart, was always bullied and struggled to learn the way the education system required, now some would say that school is unfair but what it resulted in was I had to learn in a unique way. As I grew older, I knew what I wanted in life and that was to be successful. But what was success to me? my entrepreneurial mind was always running a million miles an hour, I would come up with these brilliant idea’s but wasn’t sure how to progress to the next stage, Many people suggested to complete degrees in those fields although I knew university wasn’t for me, I wouldn’t be able to focus on the learning model in which they teach and I would end up having thousands of degree qualifications. So, I immersed myself in self-development, surrounded myself with likeminded people and engaged mentors to learn success habits and specialised knowledge. Never stop seeking out knowledge and educating yourself, find someone who is already doing what you want to do and learn from them, pay them, intern at their business and gain the specialised knowledge that has afforded them the success they have today. Make self-education a part of your life.
3. Journaling – Writing down what you want – I write down my goals, ambitions, thoughts and ideas daily. Set yourself 15 minutes in the morning with no other distractions and write down your daily goals and planning and then 15 minutes in the evening to reflect and add more content. At the end of each week set yourself a solid 30 minutes to review each day to see if you have reached your desired outcomes for the week and what could be done better. When you write out your process in a journal it is easy to review your actions and implement your goals to creating your vision.
