The Perfect Lift
A cool rush of wind crisply hit my face as I entered the Bell Senseplex. Who’s ever heard of holding a powerlifting meet in a hockey arena? Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed a green space. There happens to be an indoor soccer field and that is where Provincials held. Red and black, black and white, a sea of singlet wearing lifters cased the space. Just beyond a curtain, behind the main lifting platform, you could see lifters being amped up by their coaches, or zoned out by the beats in their headphones. There were others ritualistically setting up their deadlifts-left arm up-right arm up-left arm down-grip-right arm down-grip-breathe out-breathe out more-brace-lats engaged-sit back-lift—warming up for the moment that would define them. I noticed that there were physio tables set up, and a few lifters from the weight class that just finished were having their limbs contorted in ways that would ease their pain. The smell of fear mixed with excitement and ammonia.

When Success is the Only Option
It may not be a surprise to you—the reader—when I say my unrelenting passion is writing. But for many in my life it’s a hidden secret, or an under played hobby of mine. This passion is scary, terrifying, horrifying—because if I fail, I’ll lose the piece that’s always held my heart together.

Solemates
When I was 18, I came home from Hawaii for Christmas. I was kind of lost because so much had changed since high school. My friends had moved on and I did not really know exactly what I wanted to do in life. I went downtown to see the Christmas lights and I met this guy, Madison. There was something about him that made my heart flutter. I went back to Hawaii, but he stayed on my mind. Once I finished school, I moved back home and for years we saw each other and hung out a time or two but it just never felt like the “right” time. Then, on my 27th birthday, the stars aligned. Maybe heaven was betting on us.

Whole Heartedly
Fulfilment is incredibly important to me and is something I require when completing any task otherwise I either simply do not complete it or I slap something together as to get it out of the way. I don’t behave like this out of spite or because I have a bad attitude, I just truly need to feel some sort of passion in order to work my best.

RECLAIMING CAREER FREEDOM
My life’s script was nothing short of a narrative that had the potential to make every conventional Indian parent happy, right from getting an Engineering degree to working with a multi-national corporation, I did tick all boxes at a nascent stage of my career graph, but somehow, career freedom gave me a better sleep at night than a secure paycheck ever could.

Being a Thousand Things
What does being over a thousand things mean to you? Yes, I’m talking to you on the other side of this screen. In general, being over a thousand things can mean anything. Some can take it as putting up multiple facades in life or feeling different types of emotions all at once. Some may even go as far as being involved or having various identities. Others will believe it's a stage in life people have gone through. For example, teenager to adult. When you were teenager you might of been really into the emo or gothic fashion but once you became and adult you grew out of that style and liked more business casual clothes instead. Being over a thousands things is more then just life itself.

A Man's World
The events discussed below are true experiences. These are constantly in flux but this is a representation of what I experience in a weekend. I have omitted names, and the ones that are included are false identities to help avoid confusion. This is not meant to target any club or organization specifically because these are events that I have experienced to many varying degrees at all racing events. Enjoy.

Sharing My Journey
-Returning To School - From a young age, I dreamed of becoming a successful fashion designer to support young women in assuming leadership roles, but it was disregarded when I shared my vision. History has continually shown me the struggles women endure to overcome the expectations of traditional gender roles. Courageous, confident, and successful women inspired me; however, I saw them regularly dressed in androgynous suiting rather than embracing and celebrating their femininity. I intended to change the way women are perceived by empowering them through my clothing designs and inspiring future generations. Although I pursued fashion design for the past decade, I realized that I would ultimately need to return to university full-time to achieve my goals.

Role Models that Change Lives
Do you have a positive role model in your life? I have a few but one in particular has changed my life in the best ways. A role model that has had it tough. That’s my brother, Aiden. He is the one who first took me to the gym, the one who first truly inspired my passion. Thanks to Aiden I have since studied courses, watched videos, read articles, and listened to podcast that are all related to fitness and health.

My Story.. My Journey.. My Mission..
Life was great growing up. I wouldn’t call it typical but through the eyes of a child born into an environment, everything seems normal. Normal is relative and I say this because I grew up in the 80s in a third world country (Haiti) with lots of family and by no means did I ever feel out of place. We never seemed to be missing anything, especially food. I lived in Haiti until I was about 4 or 5 years old and came to the United States. I would spend the school year in the states and back to Haiti for the summers. Every visit meant two and half months of feasting and travels around the country visiting friends and family. Afterall, Haiti is a very small country.
