Happiness, defined; things that help you find happiness, keep it, and share it with others.
Strange Times But I'm Happy Because...
Not all hope is lost in New York City. While everyone is quarantined, the earth is healing. It brings me such joy hearing that the water in Venice is running clear, the mountain line around LA is visible and global pollution levels are down significantly. But most of all, good people are keeping me happy these days...

Love More
There are a lot of fantastic photos, illustrations, paintings, or otherwise out there but the one above by illustrator Ramona Wultschner is one of my favorites at the moment. My days in quarantine have been full of ups and downs, some days are just better than others. Whilst scrolling on Instagram at some miscellaneous hour of the evening of a particularly rough day I found this photo and it made me smile and decide to change my mood. I decided to turn on Spotify's "twerk playlist" and dance around my kitchen while making lemon bars. There is so much joy in dancing like no one is watching. This illustration captures the fun childish side of people. Especially in times like this, when times are tough and only essential workers are allowed to work and everyone gets TENSE if someone near them coughs, , it is important to remember to do loosen up something fun. Be goofy, be creative, its more than OK to be a dork and find a way to enjoy the simple things, regardless of your age.

Love more, Live longer
During times of chaos and distruction, my mind continues to come back to one place. What our world is truly lacking is L O V E. Everywhere we go and everything we see seems to be covered in fear. Our food is being poisoned, our media is full of fake news and false information, and people are walking around in masks, afraid to get too close. It breaks my heart to witness elderly men and women shake rapidly at the brush of a shoulder by another. They panic with that fearful look in their eye. What if it happens to me?

Yet in that darkness, there are stars in the night's sky that shine upon us. Let us savor the joy of those sparks of light. Third Place in Love More Challenge.
In 2019 Marie Kondo asked us “Does it bring you joy?” In 2019 deciding whether to keep an article of clothing was worthy of being kept in your closet seemed hard. In 2019 I spent my paychecks on my unimaginable student debt, rent, and cloths. My closet was full of items that when purchased brought me immense joy for perhaps a day. Dresses that would have my mom asking “Are you trying to hide your outfits from me” As I snuck out of her house in an oversized coat on my way to a Dante’s Inferno themed birthday party. In 2020 I wear the same sweatpants every day and brush my hair just to put it in a tangled bun. In 2020 I no longer have a job & the idea of glueing gems to my face no longer has the same appeal, I have to find joy else where.

Good Things Jar 2019
After making so many memories in 2018, and the enjoyment of looking back on them, I did the same for 2019. The idea is to make a note of something good that happened each week, put each note in a jar, and have 52 memories on which to look back. I tried to get at least one note per week in there but was lucky enough to have even more experiences that I wanted to remember.

A piece of my heart
What is pure joy? Everyone probably has their own interpretation or definition of the word, but I want to share mine. Joy is not based on circumstances. It comes from an inner knowledge. It is not circumstantial. It is a choice. Joy is freedom from conditional happiness. It comes from the heart.

Happiness
Happiness is a word that doesn't always get appreciated for its full meaning. We all search for happiness, but sometimes it's hard to find. Financial concerns, health difficulties, emotional issues, family squabbles...they all get in the way of our happiness. I believe that the key is to never give up. No matter how difficult it may seem, there's always something that can put a smile on your face.

Love More Challenge
Quarantine has become a time where everything seems uncertain and the future appears bleak. It may be because of the media reporting mostly on daily casualties and also the difficulties doctors have to overcome to maintain the healthcare system as efficient as possible to save the most lives. However, we tend to forget that happiness is neither a physical object nor a person who may be lost or disappear in time and never to return. Happiness is a state of being; a moment where you find true fulfillment in what you do or what you’ve achieved. Tt can even become that time when a special someone can make you feel completely satisfied and full, because you know that, so long as that person remains with you, you won’t need anything else to feel content. Being quarantined may take away the physical connection with some of the people I love the most, especially my friends, whom are miles away from my home country and I have to communicate with via Whatsapp or videocall. Of course, I can’t complain too much given that these advances in technology at least give us the chance to stay connected throughout these difficult times, and yet I have started using it to distract myself from the outside world every now and then, when things get particularly heavy.

Bitter with the Sweet
There’s a song from Carole King’s 1972 album, Rhymes and Reasons. It’s called ‘Bitter with the Sweet’. It inspired my thoughts today. I think everyone on some level understands that this is how life works. You put up with the bitter because eventually you’ll be rewarded with the sweet.
