There are a lot of fantastic photos, illustrations, paintings, or otherwise out there but the one above by illustrator Ramona Wultschner is one of my favorites at the moment. My days in quarantine have been full of ups and downs, some days are just better than others. Whilst scrolling on Instagram at some miscellaneous hour of the evening of a particularly rough day I found this photo and it made me smile and decide to change my mood. I decided to turn on Spotify's "twerk playlist" and dance around my kitchen while making lemon bars. There is so much joy in dancing like no one is watching. This illustration captures the fun childish side of people. Especially in times like this, when times are tough and only essential workers are allowed to work and everyone gets TENSE if someone near them coughs, , it is important to remember to do loosen up something fun. Be goofy, be creative, its more than OK to be a dork and find a way to enjoy the simple things, regardless of your age.
Oh goodness. I love so many social media accounts I follow, those being mostly food, travel, and art accounts. Seeing people who are talented and passionate about what they love is exciting, travel is exciting (even if I'm not always the one doing the traveling). most importantly FOOD is exciting. My point is, there are so many amazing creators out there, but I have to say some of my favorites at the moment are those on WEBTOON. For those of you who don't now what WEBTOON is, it's an online platform for artists to post comics and stories they have made, usually one segment per week. The stories are original, engaging, and have definitely pulled out the inner child in me, I look forward to reading them every week and finding out what happens as much as if not more that catching up on new episodes of my favorite TV shows. Right now my two favorite comic series from WEBTOON are The Wrath and the Dawn and Lore Olympus. I initially stumbled upon the website as a recommendation from a friend and have fallen in love with it ever since I first began reading Lore Olympus. My admiration an enjoyment of these stories has only grown from there and I can't wait to read even more as time goes on.
Before two years ago I never watched comedians performances, I didn't think it was "my thing" for some reason or another. But alas in the second year of an unhappy college relationship one of my girlfriends finally sat me down and told me I HAD to watch Jigsaw by Daniel Sloss, she raved about how funny he was and how much I would like his act, so obligingly I agreed to watch it with her. Not only is he a very cheeky comedian with some very dark humor, but he also shared some words I really needed to hear about relationships in his act. It prompted me to pull my head out of my arse and get out of this relationship that I was so clearly unhappy in. I enjoy his other comedy acts as well, however Jigsaw will always hold a very special place in my heart, sometimes I re-watch it to remind myself that its okay to leave relationships that don't make you happy and be your own person. There's something wonderful about rediscovering your own self worth because quite often I at least, (as sad and funny as it is) find myself ass over head for whoever I'm dating and get carried away in that.
Let me tell you there are SO may entertaining and amazing creators out there. If any of you like to watch people dance Cornel and Rithika dance THE BEST Bachata I have ever seen, some Tik Toks really are funny, and there are so many other incredible authors, singers and songwriters, and artists out there on all of our social media feeds just waiting to give us a little bit of joy no matter what kind of a day we are having.
