This Year I'm Fixing My Circadian Rhythm
It's that time of year again when we all start writing lists of things we need to change about ourselves while lounging around on the sofa regretting those extra three serves of Christmas lunch we spontaneously consumed days before. That's right, I'm talking about New Year's Resolutions *shudder*. Last year I wrote down a few resolutions for myself on Vocal. Did I achieve them? Yes, well, kind of...

An Open Letter To My 40-year-old Self
So I wrote this letter when I was 20 in 1998. In 2018 when I turned 40 I read it and had a good laugh. But I never showed anyone. Mostly because it was embarrassing and also surprisingly too close to home. Especially about the US President. But here it is in 2021 when I am almost 43. Enjoy!

The believer
The believer Having a disability! Having a disability is sometimes not fun you always think your being looked at differently, or being treated like shit. What you always have to think about though is is your a human like everyone els in the world! No one is perfect or normal. Ever since I got diagnosed with my disability I definitely felt out of place especially K-4th grade, because I was in public school. Then when I went to privet school it was like a fresh start I guess it had its ups and downs for sure. One of the biggest achievements of my athletic years in middle and high school was hitting a home run in middle school that was a highlight of my middle school baseball career I for sure thought I was getting baseball player of the year! Then comes banquet and they gave it to someone els but, the next award was the best teammate/spirt award. That award a received! I was really mad I did not get the baseball award but,I accepted the award and I was proud to accept it!

The Unfulfilled Bucket List
On December 23rd, 1999, my mother gave birth to a small, blonde babe who did nothing but cry through all hours of the night. That babe was me, the Christmas baby as most of my family would describe. Although it seemed that all the best holidays were packed into one, I hadn't shown any interest in celebrating my birthday or Christmas. No, my favorite holiday to celebrate was New Year’s Eve. If you asked me why, I wouldn't be able to give you a simple, definitive answer. It wasn't the fireworks that were displayed every year like clockwork. It wasn't the excuse to drink until the sun came up and it wasn’t that stupid, midnight kiss that everyone raved about. One of the reasons why I loved New Year’s Eve was, for the metaphor. The idea of a new beginning and the start of something new. The process of making a wish and setting goals for yourself to accomplish for the year to come. I loved reflecting and I adored the feeling of hope that accompanied this day.

None Braver than a Lifesaver
"Wait, does he mean atherosclerosis?" My name isn't Clemin Thyme. Samuel Clemens, who published using the name Mark Twain, has a famous saying in which he claims that too much of anything is bad, but I never believed that a person can be too honest. I always thought that people who claimed to be too honest were in fact trying to justify their own lack of social tact and grace.

My 2022 Word isn't a Resolution
I don't choose a word for the year. Every year, a word chooses me. The first time it happened was in 2012. Beginning in November the word "Hope" kept coming up in conversation. In December the mentions increased, and being the logophile that I am I wanted to do a whole etymological word study on it, but I didn't have time. So when January first came and someone somewhere said something about choosing a word for the year, I thought, "Why not?"
