Healthy Habits: Body + Mind
Over the course of this pandemic, I’ve been able to spend some time refocusing on things that are important to me, now that I found myself having more time for leisure than I have had in quite a few years. I have picked up multiple hobbies and pass times, but something I really wanted to focus on was getting my health- physically and mentally- in a better place than it currently was. Not that I wasn’t healthy previously, but I wanted to finally spend time fine tuning my body and mind. I also figure that if I can form healthy habits while I have the time to truly decompress my mind and evaluate my choices, it’ll be easy to stick to them by the time life goes back to “normal.” (Whenever that may be..)

We have a Choice in Despair
You have choice. It might not feel like it right now, when you feel in such despair, but you do. The wonderful Nelson Mandela really captured that sense of freedom in choice we all have when he said: "Even behind prison walls, I can see the heavy clouds and the blue sky over the horizon."

Seen it all
I've seen it all. I've seen every society on Earth. I am a 15,000 year old barn owl. I don't have a name, and I never will. I've never seen a need for them anyway. Ever since my birth, I've seen the evolution of humanity. I've seen the taming of the horse to the invention of the smartphone. I've seen countless wars, the making of the silk road, the egyptian monarchy, and everything else. It's both a blessing and a curse that my body has managed to see this day. It's all going downhill from where I see it, and I've seen it all anyway.

Practicing Generosity When Times are Hard
I really shouldn't call him the rap for food guy his name is Anthony. I used to see him a few times a week when I was on my way to work or taking my children to school downtown. When I saw him, he was on the corner of 55th and Kinsman.

Cutting The Ties That Bind
A young boy and his father attended a kite festival one evening. Upon arriving, the boy was in awe of all the beautiful kites floating about in the air. There must've been at least 50 kites being flown by their owners, each one different and significant in its own way; some flying lower, moving to the left and then swooping toward the right and some flying high in the sky, slow and steady.

Paradox of not being able to be really happy while being in comfort:
We are dying to be in comfort. Don’t we? First let’s be clear. We don’t necessarily mean relaxation or resting by mentioning comfort. Surely, we are all humans. We don’t have an infinite amount of energy and time. We can get tired, even exhausted time to time. Obviously, there is no problem taking our time off the task in hand. Actually, resting when we are in need is as much necessary as breathing. What we get wrong is that seeking comfort has to be our primal goal. Sadly, we feel like if comfort is non-existent in our lives, we would die out of uncertainty. Now, let’s face the reality. Where do we really find meaning? Comfort or discomfort? If we are honest to ourselves, our answer probably would be discomfort. Take our species as an example. If our ancestors didn’t decide to climb down from the trees approximately 4.2 million years or leave the caves around 100.000 years ago, would we be the people who we are today? Most likely we wouldn’t be. It is as if universe tells us in subtlest ways: “Go and conquer, my children. You may feel afraid, you may feel anxious and you may feel hesitant. But, also know that ultimately, there is nothing to be worried of. I always have your back.”

Contract of Unspeaking
There’s a high school photo of me floating on Facebook. A friend took it before band class as I hunched over a thick 5-subject notebook balanced on a tilted music stand. I never even noticed her taking the photo until I saw it posted online. In the comments, I played my concentration as a joke, adding a contrived philosophical statement about being a deep, dark, emotional writer. I linked to the blatantly “emo” piece, said I was having a bad week, and we moved on.

Creative Confidence and Courage.
Whilst listening to a Richard Feynman, the celebrated physicist, lecture this week I was struck by how confident and assertive he seemed. Yet, a lot of what I've read about Feynman suggests that he was quiet and introverted. Although he was one of the last century's great scientific minds, it wasn't his knowledge that gave him his confidence. He could communicate and challenge big questions with ferocious tenacity. In my opinion, one of the most essential elements of creative or design-thinking is courage—the courage to step out of what you know and assume and find a new understanding of uncertainty. Courage is one of the critical elements of both confidence and creativity.
