Hope
A strong, thick fog clouds your mind as you lie in bed, wondering to yourself; “Will things ever get better?”. It’s not quite sadness that you feel, but it’s the closest emotion you can put to what plagues you, even during your happiest moments. When you look into the past you only see your mistakes, replaying events over and over, thinking if there was anything you could have done differently to change the outcome. You don’t dare try to envision the future, as your mind spirals into the darkest depths.

Choice Points in Life
Now that I am retired I can look back on my life with the perspective I never could when I was caught up in the mix, the hustle and bustle of the work world, the joys and difficulties of child-raising. The constant struggle to improve myself and my life situation, and the never-ending battle for sheer survival have mostly sorted themselves out now.

Being human
“Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence.” - Vince Lombardi "Being human" “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” – Mark Twain

In the slight breeze, I looked to her forlorn expression. Back then, Eva was more concerned with her time left on this Earth than I was. Now, I’m not sure how she feels…I haven’t talked to my friend in quite a while.

Trying when You Expect to Fail
It's almost 11 PM on a constant countdown to June 25th. I've spent the day exposing myself to two languages without much break in between and feel disheartened. On the 25th, I enter a country I have never been to before and start learning a language that frankly scares me. It's the unknown and the fear of difficult situations rolled up into a bundle and that's terrifying.
