The word mother cannot be defined in words. It can only be defined in terms of love and affection.
My mother is behind my every success. I and my brother both are suffering from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy that causes progressive weakness and loss of muscle mass. So we cannot perform any task independently. So, I always need someone to support me. She is my mother. Many people abandon their children because of their disability. But my mother had no such thoughts. She is taking care of me and my brother even today. I and my brother both are disabled. She motivates us every day with the statement, “Physical disability is no bar to success”. I was five years old when I was diagnosed with the disease. But, till today my mother has never demotivated me. Many people were saying that taking care of such children is of waste. But my mother never took such words to her mind. She always motivates me saying, “Never take the words of society to your mind, just ignore their words. There might be hundreds of people who try to discourage you, but you should never lose your willpower”.
My mother struggled a lot in order to educate us. Many were saying that doing such hard work in order to give education to such disabled children is of no use. But my mother never paid attention to such words and still, she takes us to school even today without accepting any defeat. There was no elevator in our school. So, my mother used to climb two floors by stairs every day carrying me and my brother. My mother used to stay in the school itself for seven hours every day taking care of us. We all three were eating lunch together at lunchtime. Seeing my mother's hard work and our performance, our school implemented an elevator lift after seven years.
One evening in December 2016 I was filled with sorrow as I was wheelchair bounded from my disease. My mother filled me with the hope of achieving something by saying, “You can still achieve something. You should achieve something and inspire other disabled people also to achieve something. By seeing how you lead your life, other disabled people will also lead a life like you and your brother. You should make the people know that taking care of and educating such disabled children is not of waste. Society should feel proud of such disabled people who achieve something or the other in their lives”.
One night I asked my mother whether I can become normal again. My mother replied with a motivational speech, “Physical disability is not a barrier to achieve something. Many disabled people have made great achievements in their lives. You should get inspired by such people. You should just have faith in yourself in order to achieve something”.
One night in 2018 I was in sorrow because I was fully bedridden. My mother again motivated me, saying, “We cannot run from situations. We should adjust to the current situation and go ahead in our lives without losing our hope”. I questioned my mother, “how to pass the time laying on the bed? How can I read now?”. My mother came up with an idea. She bought a glass table and placed it on the bed and said, “Now you can pass your time by reading books”. After reading each page, my mother turns the page of the book. Like this, my brother and I are continuing our studies.
Today I am studying Class 12 only because of my mother and her hard work. I would not have become a writer if my mother had paid attention to the words of society. Today I have become a writer only because of my mother and her motivational speech. Today I am leading my life only because of my mother.
This is a true story.
