Motivation to create your own business: how to find strength in yourself?

For me, motivation is what pushes me forward, makes me fight against my own laziness, and does not let me give up after another failure. Without motivation, there would be no successful businessman in the world!

In general, today I want to speculate on the topic of what might be the motivation to create your own business. Moreover, everything that I will tell you today will be consistent with my personal experience, since for more than 8 years I have had my own small business in the capital of our country.

Most recently, Entrepreneur published an interesting infographic about the reasons for starting your own business abroad. More than a third of entrepreneurs (37%) are proud to be doing their dream business. They consider it their main motivator and source of inspiration.

What might motivate you to start your own business?

It is not necessary to open a business for money or because "that's what all successful friends do." Anything can be a true motivator! For instance:

  • Work only on projects that are of personal interest to you
  • Finally, realize your potential by 100% and find a worthy application for the experience, knowledge and skills gained
  • Get rid of the slave office schedule (as an option: from a stupid boss, inadequate clients, routine duties, annoying colleagues)
  • Realize your childhood dream
  • Remove the "ceiling" on income
  • Work in the specialty (if it was not possible to find a suitable job for hire)
  • Make this world a little better

A couple of useful tips from professionals and personally from me:

  • Do not put an end to the idea of your own business just because of the lack of start-up capital! Dozens of current corporations started almost from scratch: Apple, Hewlett Packard, Johnson & Johnson, Gillette and many others
  • Money should not be the main goal of starting your own business! It is proved that such motivation works weakly and for a short time. It is much better to motivate a dream for which there are not enough funds at the moment: travel, a house or a good education
  • Get ready for a long marathon! I don't know a single businessman who has been successful on the first try and in a matter of months. Everyone, without exception, went through a negative experience in the beginning. Many have started over several times. And some even radically changed the direction of their business!

Now a few words about how to choose "your" direction in business. Study up-to-date materials on the topic you are going to study. Blogs, forums, articles on the Web, books, videos, training - choose the format that you like best. Agree, you are unlikely to come up with something fundamentally new or revolutionary. And if so, it is better to learn from the mistakes of others than from your own.

A business idea should be interesting to both you and potential customers. Moreover, one without the other does not work in principle! If the idea is not interesting to the entrepreneur himself, then sooner or later he will begin to treat his offspring as a disgusting job for hire. If the idea does not find a response from potential buyers, the business will bring continuous losses.

Don't forget to reset yourself from time to time. Motivation is, of course, good. But if you dig for a long time in one direction (even the most interesting), internal burnout is inevitable. Pull yourself out of the "business environment" at least once in a while and give your brain a rest.

For me, the best option is a combination of fresh air, physical activity, and new experiences. A hike in the forest, a bike ride, a couple of days in another city with excursions or a picnic with friends who are far from business.

If the weather does not allow, then you can simply buy 3-4 interesting books (artistic, not motivating!) And fall out of reality for a while. By the way, watching TV shows or playing computer games is not suitable for a “reboot”.

A bit of philosophy:

All of you have probably watched at least one movie in which the main character finds out that he has a month, six months, or a year left to live. And the whole plot revolves around how the system of his values changes dramatically.

What am I leading to? To the fact that life is too short (even for centenarians) to waste it on all sorts of nonsense. A lot of things we do just because someone else likes it. It takes a lot of energy that can be spent on creating and growing your own business. As an option.

The most important thing is to decide on your real goals in time and cut off everything superfluous imposed by the same advertising or society. And if it works out, then you will no longer need motivational books. According to my observations, the more successful a person is, the less he reacts to “external stimuli”: fashion, trends, the opinions of others. Most often, it does not depend on time eaters (social networks, TV shows, computer games).

A successful businessman always knows what he wants and just lives his own life, not someone else's... What I sincerely wish for myself and for you!
