Meet Four of My Friends

I have four friends I want you to meet.

By Margaret MinnicksPublished 2 days ago 3 min read

I have four faithful friends I can depend on. I love them so much that I want to introduce them to you. Once you get to know them, you will love them too, and they will love you. If you are not interested, you can stop reading now. However, if you want to meet them, read on.

The main purpose of all four of these friends is to keep you happy. Each one of them could make you happy in their own way. They could do it alone, but they get along so well with one another that it is four times better when all of them work together.

Here are my four friends introduced to you in alphabetical order.

1. Dopamine

Dopamine is my “feel-good” friend. He keeps me happy and alert even when I am sad and tired. He pulls me out of bed and gets me involved in things that will make me forget my problems. I can already depend on Dopamine for pleasure. Besides, he helps with learning, memory, attention, motor system function, motivation, rewards, and decision-making.

Dopamine is so wonderful that I should be rewarding him. Instead, Dopamine rewards me. Therefore, I can rely on this friend to keep me happy.

2. Endorphin

Endorphin is the friend I can depend on when I am in pain. He blocks the pain while producing euphoria. There is no need for any over-the-counter medicine when endorphin is around. Endorphin is a natural pain reliever that acts in response to my stress, pain, and discomfort.

Endorphin makes me feel much better after I experience pain. He is my body’s natural morphine. He shows up more often after I have been for a long run. I depend on Endorphin for my “runner’s high.”

3. Oxytocin

Oxytocin is my friend who helps promote trust, empathy, and bonding in relationships. He teaches me about physical affection like cuddling, hugging, and kissing. When I become nervous about dating and being intimate in relationships, Oxytocin becomes my dating coach. He helps reduce stress, calms my nervous system, and assures me that everything will work out fine.

When Oxytocin is around, I always have warm feelings and feel connected to other people and pets.

4. Serotonin

Serotonin is the last of the four friends on the alphabetical list. In a nutshell, Serotonin is the friend who helps regulate my mood, sleep, appetite, digestion, learning ability, and memory.

Serotonin keeps me happy by being with me when I am moody, sleepy, hungry, and can't remember things. What I especially love about this friend is that he helps me make my grocery list to keep him around. He advises me to eat apples, cranberries, citrus fruits, blackberries, artichoke, mushrooms, barley, potatoes, wheat, oats, chicory, beets, onions, garlic, rye, legumes, and pasta.

Author's Note

I cannot depend on some people to always make me happy. However, I can always depend on my four faithful friends to keep me calm, happy, free from pain, and able to love. And who wouldn't want friends like that?

All four of my friends regulate my moods, promote positive feelings, and make me happy. Each friend has a special job and does what it was designed to do. However, when all four of them work together, life is good.

Ladies and gentlemen, I introduce you to my friends: Dopamine, Endorphin, Oxytocin, and Serotonin. Receive them as I have, and they will become your good friends.
