Limitless

The very Human pursuit of discovering where we limit ourselves.

I love my job because, it’s not a job.

Cliché? Maybe, but it doesn’t take away from the authenticity of that statement.

I don’t find what I do to be a job because when I see and hear the difference it makes in the tone of my client’s voice, the way they carry themselves and the true sense of pride and accomplishment I can read clearly on their face. It makes all the work, physical, mental and emotional, a hundred percent worth it.

Probably sounds dramatic for a Health Coach, Personal Trainer/Yoga Instructor but you’ll have to take my word for it, literally. Did I mention I like puns? It’s one of the few characteristics that my client’s say they enjoy about me, the rest they grunt, sigh and curse me under their breath, I attribute it to the workload they’re doing. But by the end of our time together, no words are needed. All the reward I need is their re-found confidence and rediscovered love and respect they have for themselves.

Majority of our training sessions start the same with my clients cheerfully declaring:

“I’m not sore anymore!” and ends with my quick quip “I’ll fix that!”

Most new clients have the same worries, “Can I do this? Will it be hard? Is all this work worth it?”

And usually, in a mildly varying fashion I’ll ask, “What is your wellbeing worth to you?”

“Can you put a value on feeling happy? Strong? Energized? Destroying your self imposed limits? What is all that worth to you?”

So what do I like about my job?

It's so much more than the physical results that my clients earn for themselves, weight loss, stronger arms, better flexibility and endurance. More vibrant and healthy skin from clean, nutrient dense eating, not to mention better bloodwork, reduced inflammation and reduction in comorbidities or risk of lifestyle diseases. These outside visible changes are the "goals" that bring most clients to me as a coach, but it's the inner changes that keep them in pursuit of finding out just how much they're truly able to do.

The limits that they were meant to break.

I like that my client's feel better, stronger, more alive and capable of things, activities, goals and dreams that they might not have thought was in their reach before.

I love that everyday, I have the opportunity to not only help them feel better about how they look on the outside, but how they feel on the inside, guiding them to see that they are so much more than just a body, a worker, a "cog" in the wheel of life.

Rather, I get to act as a mirror to their whole, UNLIMITED individual self! Who is ambitious, qualified, intelligent, creative, empowered and they soon agree that that self discovery is worth any effort required. So they can truly, compassionately take care of themselves and their loved ones.

I LOVE that I get to share with family, friends, clients and the people in my community the priceless gift of finding out what each one of us is truly capable of when we give ourselves the chance, the permission, to pursuit our best. Whether that is physical, professional, relational, mental or emotional work that we set out to ignite in ourselves. The payoff I've witnessed is tenfold what I could ever imagine.

When even just one of us dares to see the value of pursuing our self and has the courage to put the effort into realizing that unlimited, authentic person. It’s effects ripple in the outside world, in ways we can't even imagine or begin to understand.

One very personal example to me, I had just been hired as the only female firefighter in a department of 100. I worked hard to keep up with the boys there and had a few friends in my weightlifting group that knew about my career and the daily effort I put into being the strongest, most tenacious I could possibly be. A few years later, after a close friend from that weightlifting group and I had not spoken for a while reconnected. She had gone through fire school and applied to work at a fire department in her area.

She told me that when she applied with her current department during her interview they asked her what made her want to pursue a career in the fire service. She told them it was my refusal to limit myself, what I could do, what I achieved.

She said my actions and belief in myself inspired her.

And that is the kind of impact I’m willing to put my blood, sweat and tears into each and every day.

Because I love and will never limit who I am and that is what I choose to share with the world and people around me.

And that is why I love my job.
