When I Decided to Be Kind to Me
I set myself on fire many times to keep people warm, and in the process I suffered first degree burns. I have deep tissue scars that will take skin grafts to fix. I'm the surgeon who must fix them. I need an isolated room to conduct the surgery. It will take time. In the process, I'll learn of better ways to keep people warm without sacrificing myself. I'm a giver and that I cannot change, I care, my name follows my acts. It's who I am. I just need to do it without neglecting taking care of me. This time it is me teaching myself to look after myself, so I can be around to look after everyone else. I had to go back and read that again, not to correct the grammar or to make it sound or read a little better, but to hear myself read those words again. If I wasn't where I am right now, I would have read that out loud, just so I could hear my voice saying it. Coming to think about it, the voice you hear when you think, why does it not make a sound? Or does it? If it does, it definitely doesn’t sound like my talking voice. I stray, back to the topic at hand.

The Purposes of Expectations
Since the day you or I were born, we had parents setting expectations for us. It could be from the time we were carried in their arms while sleeping whispering what we would be like, or maybe they have plans for us to become successful as we begin to take our first steps. In time people from either in the family or friends group want something out of each and every one of us. It seems like we have goals and dreams that would make people be proud or ashamed of us. It may be far fetched, but to say the least there are expectations we have to overcome or accomplish to set our lives.

Okay, Now What?
In the beginning, you have a vision. It’s exciting. You work on the details, you have all the hopes and dreams of what could happen. You create the theme, logo, designs, people you want to work with, the ideas are bouncing back and forth, and you have the plans all laid out. Then you go out and do it. You made it happen. You’re amped, telling everyone, you’re working a crazy amount of hours and you’re producing so much work, things are happening then suddenly… things simmer down and you find yourself asking, “Alright, now what?”

Getting Through (and Growing Through) Grief
Life isn’t always easy, and it can be at its toughest when we lose someone close. The connections and love we share in our lives are what being alive is all about, so when someone we felt a connection to departs, we can feel alone, reel with the loss, and even begin to feel depressed and uneasy about life in general. Grief is an incredibly difficult thing to get through.

Human Suffering and Reality
Question: Why as human we suffer more than we have to and how understanding our reality can be a remedy. As humans, we can suffer in a variety of ways. The bad news is that suffering isn’t going away anytime soon. Suffering, for people, is a fundamental state of being, just as our sadness or our happiness. It exists because we ultimately have no control over much of anything and definitely not the external world.

What Is Your Relationship with Impossible?
Every day we are faced with opportunities and challenges. Sometimes these chances are disguised as challenges, or challenges are masquerading as opportunities, and most of the time they are both, depending on your view of the world.

From Me to You, the Sun to Us, Your Life
There comes a point where the Sun sets just low enough so you can look at it without it burning your eyes. And when you see it, when you can really look at it for everything it is, it's incredible. Everyone knows without the Sun we wouldn't be here. But when you think about it, you can appreciate it that much more. And that's exactly what I did. I hope I can show you the same. No matter how busy your life is or not, sometimes we forget to take a step back and remind ourselves of the bigger things, the things in life that make us whole, and of that, that connects everything on the planet and makes us all have that one thing in common. When you can step outside of your life for those few moments, and put yourself in that bigger picture, I think that becomes elevating. So next time you are watching the sunset, I want you to think about this.

Life Gets Worse When It's at Its Best
Some say nothing is worse than the death of a loved one, or the death of a relationship. Either is an almost unbearable loss of something, and someone that you cared a lot for. Memories are all that's left and they can be triggered by a photograph, a piece of art, a taste, or a scent. It's easy to understand why loss is so painful. Others say fear and abuse are the most painful. To live in a state of fear or hostility, there are so many horrible things, and a bittersweet realization is, it can always get better, and it can always get worse.
