How to Love Yourself
The empty feeling, the sadness it brings along with it. The image of me floating off to outer space, floating off to blackness, as still as the space holds me, looking at nothing but emptiness. Nowhere to go, no one to find me. Lost and confused. How could that be? That’s ok, I’m comfortable. It’s a comfortable feeling, I finally feel comfortable. But why am I so sad? Why am I so sad when I’m comfortable?

Pain VS Pleasure
I once read a passage that taught me about our inner motivating factors. This passage explained that we are all motivated by two things: we either move towards pleasure or away from pain. Have you thought about what makes you move? Have you pondered on what propels your progress?

Can an Innocent Insect Teach Us About Life Purpose?
I was a guest at a lakefront party a few weeks ago. Lake St. Clair to be exact, the big body of shallow water that straddles the Great Lakes, Erie and Huron, yet has never been crowned as one of the Great Lakes. Sitting under one of the two large tent structures that sheltered a huge hot tub, beer fridge, and state-of-the-art BBQ among other beach party requisites, I thought the tied-back screen valances that rimmed the structures were evening defence for mosquito invasions. This tightly organized community generally splits into two groups, one to the outside of the track and one on the inside both busily grazing on the grasses. Artfully dodging goose droppings where they crisscrossed the asphalt surface became part of my exercise routine.

'All Happy Families Are Alike; Each Unhappy Family Is Unhappy in Its Own Way'
I’ve come across thousands of quotes in my life, maybe even millions, but Maya Angelou’s "one isn’t necessarily born with courage, but potential" has stuck with me through even the hardest of times. Literature has always acted as my escape. I find myself constantly searching for a character or a specific plot line to relate to what I am also going through, and if this turns out to be a bad situation, I like to think that I’m never suffering alone. However, there are also particularly strong women in my current, non-fictional life that is by far superior to any fictional world.

The Case for Making a Change
Three years ago, I started my new career as a teacher. I was to teach middle school social studies; history, geography, economics, etc. Two months into my second year teaching middle school, I was so burnt out and discouraged that I was entertaining the idea of leaving mid-year to do something completely different from teaching. The major cause of this being that I didn’t feel supported by the administration in my teaching, and in navigating behavioral issues.
