If Someone Tips You A Dollar For A Story

The Lift A Tip Can Give You

VVzyk On Friargate Preston

Introduction

Someone sent me a tip for a story of mine yesterday, it was for an entry in an unofficial challenge, but it really gave me a lift. I didn't need a lift but it still gave me one, and I thought it would be good to list a few of the benefits of tipping, as a tipper and a tippee (is that the correct word?)

The music is "I Need A Dollar" by Aloe Blacc a great song even if the sentiments are a bit of a downer. I don't need a dollar but I love it when I ger one as a tip through Vocal for whatever reason.

The image I used is the guitar case of VVzyk (with tips) who I saw on Friargate on my last visit to Preston, her music and artwork is brilliant and these are links where you can find more about her:

Tipping Benefits For All

I think both tippers and tippees benefit from Tips. I have written about tipping before, although I think things have changed significantly since then but you can read it here:

The first tip I received was one of the most important events for me on Vocal because it showed that someone believed I could write and had faith in my creations. It came completely out of the blue and resulted in an incredible literary friendship and is effectively the reason that I am here writing this today.

The thing is we do like to get a little coffee money from Vocal but 0.6c a read for Vocal+ members and half that for free members does not seem a lot. If you do the maths on that a one-dollar tip (after climate deductions) is worth more than a hundred reads financially to a Vocal+ member and double that for a free member. Less than 3% of my stories have over a hundred reads so I find any tip extremely welcome.

I always thank someone who tips me if I can, because I appreciate they have taken the time to send me the tip. I have had tips as high as ten dollars and I wonder if my creation was worth that, but it obviously was to the one who tipped me.

I do tip every now and then, three random one-dollar tips on my monthly challenge pieces and see a new creator who has written something that caught my eye.

I remember that first tip that I got and hope that my tips can cause the same effect in the creators that I tip.

Since that first one, I have got a lot of tips but the dollar ones mean a lot to me, because they do give me a lift. A heart is good, a read is better and a comment lets you know that someone has read and has an opinion on your work, and a tip is a cherry on the cake.

If you give tips you let others know that you appreciate their work, and it is similar to tipping a busker in the street, they are performing for free in the hope someone will show them a little support, and I suppose when we publish our stories on Vocal it is a little like literary busking.

"Here are some words that I worked on, I hope you like it enough to spend some time here, let me know what you think in a comment, and maybe leave me a tip and share my stories with others who may enjoy it"

Conclusion

I gave three tips yesterday on completion of my July challenge, and am likely to tip new Vocal creators if their work catches my eye.

Thank you for reading and your 0.6c and if you want to leave me a tip feel free to (That is a joke as I do get a lot of reads).

I have yet to receive a tip, but I can imagine that it would be exciting, no matter how much it was for! Out of curiosity, do you know what the minimum tip amount is? Could someone give a penny, for instance? 50 cents?

I agree, we should tip more for our fave stories! I think i'd like to do three tips a week. I have only had one tip, and I was beaming for a whole month about it!!

It is lovely getting a tip! I love the little unofficial challenges because they encourage more tipping ☺

Nice, no matter how little it is , it's just like a motivation

  • I'm so sorry I'm not able to give you that cherry on the cake. I'm both unable to give tips or receive tips. No idea why 😅

  • I have received few tips monitarily however I've benefited from your wise tips exponentially.

I remember I received one tip $5 when I first started here on Vocal. That was the only tip I have received. Good work on this piece.

Never underestimate the power of a dollar, especially to newer writers. It's truly a fork in the road moment that can give the inspiration to keep going.
