How To Get Out Of a Rut

It's all a mind game

We’ve all been there. One moment your life is going well, and the next something out of your control comes around and leaves you mentally destroyed.

You try to overcome it, but you can’t seem to escape that dark place. Then one day, you feel better, only to find out some days afterward that the problem is still there after all.

If you can identify with this right now, I can help you to get your life back in order in no time! Well, it will take some time, it’s normal. I’ll just provide you with two mechanisms to ensure that you do not feel miserable every step of the way.

So, read on!

Step 1:

Start by identifying the problem. Once you do, remember this core stoic principle:

Is it under my control? If it is, I can adapt to overcome it. If it’s not, then no good will come from worrying.

Keeping this in mind may not result in the problem disappearing, but it becomes a tool that’s available at all times. When you start thinking too much about the said problem, go back to that mantra. See where it takes you.

Most of the time we worry about things that are out of our control. The only things we control are our thoughts and actions. Everything else is best left to the universe/destiny/god/whatever.

That is the first step and the best tool to deal with these kinds of things. For example, when you break up a relationship, you may get sad for a long time. Instead, try to focus on the fact that you could not control the outcome, which will allow you to focus on yourself and grow as a person.

Step 2:

After realizing that most of the time we cannot control the things that happen to us, we can take the time to focus on personal growth.

Embrace the pain. Use it as fuel. Channel it to something positive. This could be helping others or building yourself up.

It’s scientifically proven that helping people will boost your mood. After all, we came into this world to help each other out. To contribute to the happiness of those around us. If you’re doing something that hurts your community, you’re also hurting yourself.

That said, to be able to help and protect others, you need to make sure that you’re up to the task. How can you do that?

By focusing on self-improvement. Learn something new. A valuable skill that can make you money, a new language that can open new possibilities. Think of the idea of the perfect renaissance man. Someone who instead of being an expert in one subject is knowledgeable in many.

Aside from that, there are two things that every man should do. Learn martial arts and build strength.

Martial arts are pretty self-explanatory. You learn how to fight to be able to protect yourself and those around you. This will also greatly boost your confidence.

Building strength is another way you can build yourself up. The easiest way to do this is through weightlifting. By enrolling in a gym, not only will you be on a healthier path but you will also meet other men on the same journey as you, allowing you to make connections that will always lift you and push you toward your goals.

Final Notes:

Those are the two cornerstones for getting out of a rut. That said, there are many other ways to do this, the key here is to focus on bettering yourself.

The best place to start is by searching for self-improvement bloggers/YouTubers. You can find lots of valuable content on my blog and Youtube channel (links below), but there are many more people you could follow to help you along your journey.
