Honour: A Divine Point of Contact

Honour is a powerful spiritual principle that transcends culture, status, and personal beliefs. It is not merely about respect; it is a sacred bridge, a divine point of contact that connects us to greater realms of wisdom, grace, and supernatural blessings. In a world where dishonour is often normalized, understanding and practicing honour can set one apart and open doors that human effort alone cannot.

What is Honour?

Honour is the act of giving due recognition, respect, and reverence to whom it is owed. It is an acknowledgment of value, worth, and authority. True honour is not forced—it comes from a deep understanding of divine order and a heart of humility. Honour can be given in different ways:

Honouring God – Through worship, obedience, and reverence for His word.

Honouring Parents – By valuing their role, obeying their instructions, and showing gratitude for their sacrifices.

Honouring Leaders and Authorities – Whether spiritual, governmental, or workplace leaders, honouring them creates order and paves the way for personal and collective progress.

Honouring Mentors and Teachers – Those who have imparted knowledge, wisdom, and direction deserve honour as a sign of appreciation and continued growth.

Honouring One Another – The Bible says, "Honor one another above yourselves" (Romans 12:10). A culture of honour fosters love, unity, and divine favour.

Honour as a Gateway to Divine Blessing

Honour is not just a human practice; it is a divine principle that activates supernatural blessings. Every act of honour creates a spiritual transaction, releasing favor and grace.

1. Honour Unlocks Divine Access

There are people, places, and principles that God has placed in our lives as channels of blessing. Honour grants us access to these channels. For example, in the Bible, Elisha honoured Elijah as his mentor and, as a result, received a double portion of his anointing (2 Kings 2:9-12). Honour is what connects a person to a higher grace.

2. Honour Commands Longevity and Well-being

The commandment to honour one’s father and mother is the first commandment with a promise: “Honor your father and mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you” (Exodus 20:12). Dishonour, on the other hand, can cut short opportunities, relationships, and even life itself.

3. Honour Brings Divine Promotion

A heart that understands and practices honour is a heart that attracts divine elevation. Joseph, despite being betrayed by his brothers, honoured Pharaoh when he was summoned, and that single act led to his promotion from prison to palace (Genesis 41:14-41). Those who honour authority attract positions of influence and responsibility.

4. Honour Multiplies the Grace You Receive

When Jesus visited His hometown, the people dishonoured Him, questioning His authority, and as a result, He could not perform many miracles (Mark 6:4-5). This shows that honour determines the level of grace and blessings one can receive. If you honour those whom God has placed in your life, you will receive from their wisdom, grace, and anointing.

How to Live a Life of Honour

A life of honour is intentional. It requires cultivating humility, gratitude, and a willingness to recognize divine order. Here’s how you can live a life of honour:

1. Honour God Above All

Worship Him in spirit and truth (John 4:24).

Obey His Word and walk in righteousness.

Honour Him with your time, resources, and devotion.

2. Honour the People God Has Placed in Your Life

Respect and appreciate parents, leaders, mentors, and elders.

Show gratitude for those who have invested in your growth.

Speak well of others instead of engaging in dishonourable speech.

3. Honour Principles and Instructions

Honour the laws and principles that govern life.

Follow divine instructions, even when they don’t make sense in the moment.

Honour commitments, covenants, and agreements with integrity.

4. Honour Yourself

Carry yourself with dignity and self-respect.

Guard your speech and actions to reflect a life of honour.

Pursue growth, excellence, and purpose.

Conclusion

Honour is not just a moral obligation—it is a divine law that determines the flow of blessings and destiny fulfilment. It is a point of contact between the natural and the supernatural. When we embrace honour, we open doors to favour, divine access, longevity, and elevation.

In a world where dishonour is common, choosing to live a life of honour sets us apart and aligns us with the divine. As we honour God, His servants, and those He has placed in our lives, we position ourselves to receive grace, favour, and supernatural breakthroughs.
