Green Lights; GO!

There were many times I had been stopped from pursuing the things that make me happy. Many times, I was made to doubt myself and my intentions. It was like my life was full of stop lights at each and every major point. Constant need to turn around, or flat out stop. When was it my chance to go full throttle in the direction that was calling me? When would I find someone who pushed me to chase each and every dream I have ever had? Why was everyone giving me a red light when I was so ready to go?

I can’t say that I didn’t hold myself back at times, either. There were many times I was the person who made myself stop and pause with the decisions I was trying to make. I couldn’t understand why life was so difficult to navigate. Why were there no road maps to how to properly adult? Why were we never given the law-book to life? Of course, many of us know the basics, yet it is so easy to fall into all the things you aren’t supposed to do. It’s so easy to lose sight of the traffic signs on life. They hide behind doubt, fear, and guilt. As if the bushes and trees of life are mirrored in our own brains to cause that hesitance that so many struggle with.

The red lights are always the brightest, they are so hard to miss. The stop signs are easily passable because many of us don’t listen to the caution of it all. But being told something is really not meant for you when you feel like that is all you need in life, that is the most hurtful, so those red lights are so blaringly obvious. We are made to feel that the opinions of others should influence the decisions we make for our lives. We are taught from such a young that those involved in our lives should have impact on how our personal lives are led.

So, the real question is, what do we do when someone no longer uses the stop signs, or the red lights? What happens when we meet someone who finally encourages us to step on the gas and push full throttle to follow our passions and our dreams? Do we even know what it would be like to meet such a person?

As someone who has met that person, I can tell you, it’s such an amazing feeling. The first person to ever show me a green light, after green light. Someone who thinks that how I feel and what I want is just as important as her goals and aspirations, is so freaking phenomenal. Meeting the right person, at the right time in both our lives, was such a wild experience. I can’t help, but think that I would’ve never pursued any of my passions had I not met this amazing, beautiful, and patient woman.

The crazy thing is, those green lights reflect through those beautiful green eyes; her love for me shines through. Here I am writing this for all of you to read, because the woman I fell in love with wants that for me. I see no more red lights or stop signs in any foreseeable future. There is no turn of events that will ever make me press on the brake ever again. It’s full gas mode until every dream comes true, not just for me, but for her too.

I hope when you read this, it helps to encourage you to pursue the life choices that make you the happiest; as long as you aren’t hurting others or yourself. Read this and know that these words are meant for all of those who feel like they have to hold back their happiness for others.
