This year I aim to be both mentally and physically better than I’ve ever been before. Last year was not only a rough year for me (due to personal reasons as well), but I am sure it has been difficult for everyone else, especially due to covid. Many people have lost their motivation to do so many things they used to do and I am definitely one of them. So, to offset that overwhelming and dark year, I plan to better myself in both mental and physical aspects.
The first thing I want to do to improve my health is to stop ordering take-out as much and to start eating healthy. I feel like my eating habits have enabled me to also feel lazier and more sluggish resulting in me just staying in bed, and not getting enough exercise either. Also, depending what I eat, my body feels heavier and more bloated especially when I have too much dairy or fried food. I also feel shy or embarrassed when I feel my stomach bulging out after a meal so I tend to avoid it when I’m with a group. Being able to feel my best on the inside and out from eating a balanced meal would be an amazing thing I haven’t done in a while. By eating better, I hope it will boost my self-esteem in doing so too. Eating nutrious foods will also improve my overall health because I will be getting more vitamins and nutrients that my body craves and it will make my skin glow because of it. I plan to make a weekly meal prep or planning of my meals so I can keep track of what I eat and what I should budget for that week financially. By meal prepping, I’m also keeping myself accountable because if the food is not eaten by a certain time, it will all go to waste. It will also make sure I always have food ready on hand so I do not need to cook every single day.
Being more active is another goal of mine. I mean it would it feel amazing to be proud of my heathy and fit body, but I also want to move around more because I feel as though it improves my mood. (although I do admit during exercising it doesn’t) When I exercise, it helps me sleep better the night of. I also want to exercise more because I believe it will get me to get out and breathe in some fresh air. I’m usually cooped up inside for school, and by the time I’m done, it’s dark, cold and very uninviting. However, if I make time for it in my schedule during the day, I won’t have to skip out on getting new fresh air everyday like I have been. To start up my year, I have and want to continue to take relaxation walks with my dog and just take nature in. I also want to start getting into skip rope because I heard it makes all of your body parts work and it just makes you physically more fit fastest.
Although my goals for this year seem pretty basic and generic, I think it’s what most people worry about, and I think that’s okay. We all want to be in our best shapes and states whether it be physically or mentally so why not start from the very basics. Taking small steps towards a big goal helps you achieve it in a more attainable and consistent speed, which I personally believe is the healthiest way to go about it.
