Days, months or even years go by repeating the same thing that you want to quit. Everytime you do it you feel bad about it, until you are numb to the feeling and just do it without even thinking. And then the time comes were you realise again how bad it is and want to quit again. A endless cycle that repeats itself but when does it stop...

It should be as easy to just not do it, but the addiction, dopamine rush, pleasure, the thrill, greed, the taste... make it difficult to overcome this bad habit that takes over your life. You may have tried to stop it, for a period of days, months or maybe even years. But for whatever reason you started to do it again.

Starting to doubt yourself because you failed 10 or 100 times, maybe even want to give up and accept it as part of your life. Forgetting that if there is one thing you should'nt give up on is yourself.

There is only one thing, better said one person that could stop this endless cycle of repeating this bad habit. And that person is you and nothing and nobody else. You have to change your mindset and really believe that you can do it and then just do it!

The Bad Habit Trigger

Ask yourself why do you do it, what is the trigger to want to do the bad habit. For example stress, easy acces, trauma, looking at something that makes you think of it, drinking coffee, comfortability of your own home/space or bed, discomfort in a situation or place.... Whatever the trigger is you have to find it and remove it, make it difficult to acces, to not buy it, avoid looking or searching at things that remind you of it, if possible avoid situation or places that might make you want to do it.

What Is Your Reason

Why do you want to stop this bad habit. Think about the changes it would make in your life, your health, your mind, relationship with other people, relationship with yourself, your confidence, self believe.... Also think about the how much worse it would be for yourself if you still keep continue doing this. Would you really want to only see that you need to stop this when something irreversable already happend and or when the doctor is telling you that he can do nothing about it to help you with what is going to happen to you as result of your bad habit. Or maybe even things your missing out of because the affect it has on your way thinking, connecting to other people or opportunities you are missing.

A Good Habit To Fight You Bad Habit

Sometimes we have to fight something bad with something positive. Let's use our bad habit to our advantage. What if the urges come to want to do the bad habit. We do or replace something (or force something) we may not like to do but is still positive. Maybe some excersises, eat something healthy, read a book, go outside, sleep early... What if you have triggers or reminders that remind you to not act on your bad habit. You could wear something maybe a bracelet, a ring... Put something on your walls, places at home were your bad habits usually start, on your phone or tablet, in or on your fridge, laptop or pc... maybe if you have children look at them or your loved on, someone you love or respect maybe have a picture of them close by...

Build a Plan

  1. Write down your triggers.
  2. Write down why you want to quit.
  3. Write down what changes your gonna make to make it happen.
  4. Write down the positives that will come as result of you quiting.
  5. Be creative find/make something that will remind you of why your are doing this and why you should keep fighting.
  6. Find a good habit to fight your bad habit.
  7. Start doing what you planned to do and stick to it!
    1. Overcome And Be Free

Hopefully this could help someone fight there bad habits and overcome them for the better. Just know how lot of people are fighting their bad habits and feel bad and ashamed about them. But there are also alot of people who have overcome them and made a change in there life. Now you need to make that change for yourself!
