6 Steps For Maximum Motivation
“Of course motivation is not permanent. But then, neither is bathing; but it is something you should do on a regular basis.” ― Zig Ziglar

What Really Drives You?
Many people struggle with finding motivation. We'd all like to have that feeling all the time, but it seems to dry up now and then.
Motivation has a significant influence on one's life. Without it, achieving your objectives and realizing your dreams is far more difficult.
The neurochemical dopamine plays a crucial role in motivation, according to a study from a network of Spanish universities. Dopamine was once thought to be associated only with happy feelings, but it turns out that it also influences your motivation to complete tasks.
When the brain anticipates a positive outcome, this hormone is released. As a result, a person may be more motivated to achieve that goal.
In a separate study, researchers discovered that rats with higher levels of dopamine were more likely to overcome obstacles to reach food.
This demonstrates that motivation is a subjective experience. External factors, on the other hand, must be taken into account.
And if you can combine these factors, you'll be on your way to creating a positive cycle. Let's look at some ways to boost your motivation:
#1: Jumpstart Your Dopamine Production
Physical activity is one way to instantly impact your brain chemistry and help pave the way for feeling motivated.
Exercise is an excellent way to stimulate the discharge of feel-good hormones. Aside from dopamine, there are other neurotransmitters such as serotonin, adrenaline, and endorphins that can put you in a state of post-workout bliss.
Don't underestimate the connection between your physical and mental health. Make time for cardio and other related activities because they have a direct impact on your level of motivation.
But you don't have to have a complicated workout routine or spend money on expensive equipment and a gym membership. You can work out on a budget by creating a YouTube playlist of basic exercises.
Talking walks are also extremely beneficial. And, best of all, you can do it in as little as 15-30 minutes per day.
Maintaining this routine will make you feel better about yourself and motivate you to do more. Suddenly, you'll have time for longer workouts and will begin to do other exercises as well.
Try it in conjunction with other activities such as watching TV or listening to an inspiring podcast. You can also do it during your work breaks to keep yourself energized throughout the day.
Starting with baby steps makes getting into this habit less daunting. Ease into it, and you'll be more likely to gain traction and stick with it

#2: Get Inspired
Another way to rekindle that fire within you is to look to others who have achieved the level of success you desire. Investigate their process and the steps they took to get to where they are now.
They most likely have a book, video blog, podcast, or other medium through which they teach others how to follow in their footsteps. Reading about their achievements and hearing their stories can provide an external source of motivation that you can internalize.
The American Psychological Association (APA) discovered a phenomenon in which you can generate "intrinsic rewards" by observing other people.
When you see someone having fun with what they do, it's almost contagious. So, in a sense, these people can pass on their motivation to YOU.
#3: Get In The Driver’s Seat
According to research, the more in control you feel over a task or project, the more motivated you will be to complete it. On the contrary, feeling compelled to do something saps your motivation to complete it.
Most people are unaware that they are acting as their own boss and cracking the whip on themselves. This approach is not only demoralizing, but also extremely demotivating.
Instead, try the following simple exercise:
Consider negotiating with yourself in the same way that a worker would with his or her boss. Discuss what you need to get done today or this week and what you'd gain from it.
Begin by telling yourself, "Okay, so you need to come up with five business ideas today and choose the best one." You should also do 15 minutes of cardio in the morning or afternoon."
Then you'd say, "OK, but if I do that, I get to watch an hour of Netflix or read an hour of my book... whichever I want to do later."
You can shake on it and get to work after you've gone back and forth and worked out the terms.
Giving yourself options increases your sense of empowerment, which, in turn, increases your motivation.

#4: Get Real With Your Goals
According to additional APA research, breaking down your big goals into smaller, specific tasks increases your chances of getting work done (by up to 90%).
It feels more concrete and doable when you quantify your goals with a specific metric (e.g., do 30 pushups and 10 burpees in 30 minutes). Once you've established these mini-goals, you can begin tackling them one by one.
Make a list of related tasks under each of your big goals. Do this the night before or the day before so you can hit the ground running first thing in the morning.
Then, as you make significant progress toward your overall goal, you'll feel more motivated.
You'll be rewarded with a small dose of dopamine every time you complete one of these smaller, more specific goals. This will provide you with the motivation you need to keep going until you've completed all of your tasks.
#5: Visualize Your Future
While it's important to gain motivation from achieving your goals, it's also beneficial to give yourself a dopamine boost before you begin.
As a result, you'll find it extremely beneficial to develop the habit of visualizing your desired outcome. Spend 5-10 minutes each day visualizing yourself living your dream life as if it were happening right now.
As previously discussed, rats are more motivated to overcome obstacles simply by anticipating the reward for doing so. Similarly, thinking about the results of your hard work will cause neurochemicals to be released, which will get you pumped for the task ahead.
Consider how it would FEEL to finally complete your major goals. Consider how many people in your life have congratulated and complimented you on your efforts.
When you know what's on the other side, you'll suddenly lose all the excuses that were holding you back.

#6: Positivity In, Negativity Out
Being motivated is also heavily influenced by your beliefs. Perception is a powerful force that can shape the course of your life.
Aside from visualizing the outcome, giving yourself the right beliefs is a powerful way to shape your reality.
Affirmations are a great way to accomplish this. These are statements that you can repeat to yourself in order to reprogram your belief system.
Many people have destructive beliefs as a result of negative experiences in the past. As a result, they walk around with labels such as "loser," "hopeless case," and "damaged."
Going through life with this kind of baggage will not only sap your motivation...
... but undermine everything you do along the way.
That is why you must rewrite the story in your head using strong statements.
Here's how you can begin:
Consider the qualities you possess that will assist you in achieving your objectives. Consider what you're grateful for as well.
Use these ideas as the foundation for your affirmations. These will serve as a reminder that you have what it takes to overcome your limitations.
As with visualizing, pretend that it's happening RIGHT NOW – not sometime in the future.
That way, you'll feel empowered because you're living that great truth right now.
