Do you currently have Instagram? Is it for business or personal usage? How much time per day do you spend on Instagram?

Go in your phone settings, scroll down to the third section from your Apple ID (iPhone) and click Screen Time. Click “See All Activity” and check to see your daily Instagram usage along with other social media apps.

Does it exceed two hours? Maybe push three or four hours of daily usage…?

This is the exact reason WHY I DELETED INSTAGRAM.

I was spending hours every single day logging into the app and not getting stuff done. I would scroll for hours and check up on people that really had no meaning in my life.

The 6 Reasons Why I Deleted Instagram

#1 The Algorithm

The Instagram algorithm focuses primarily on the people’s post that you search. Th algorithm prioritizes your friends, family, and other people’s accounts that you search and posts to your feed. The algorithm is enhanced by commenting, liking, and interacting with the accounts that you favor or disfavor. The algorithm in a sense figures out who is close to you and focuses on uploading their feed the most to the top of your page. Me personally, I could never figure out my personal algorithm. Some people post twice a week, every day, every other day, or even once a month. There is no correct algorithm however it is design for you and your audience that you are trying and wanting to convey. I would usually post an array of different things. I tried the whole atheistic vibe, but I felt like that it did not work for me. I have a wide range of talents and “niches” which are focused topics such as fitness, makeup, cooking, and fishing.

I would post pictures of myself along with inspiring and motivational quotes. I could never really get my following up the way I wanted, so I felt stagnant and stuck. I felt like I was wasting my time because I really did not know what I wanted out of my page.

#2 Perfectionism

Insta-gram. The app is a picture based social media where people can post videos and pictures instantly. Many people enhance their photos using filter or edits on third party apps which created the illusion of perfectionism. Everything looks too good, it could make you want to listen to, touch, read more of, or sexually provoke you through a cell phone. Yet the reality of that post and the person who creates that illusion behind the phone could be dealing with something completely different. Instagram makes every thing and every detail about a person seem perfect, even businesses. Being perfect is a mental “feeling” a lot of women and even men have. The illusion of being perfect changes every day. Women feel the need to straighten their hair, buy certain clothing, and act a certain way just for social media. Men on the other hand feel the need to prove something to the world, post all their accomplishments, and even relationships. Everything has to be “perfect” or the post just won’t get any likes or boost one’s algorithm. People put lots of time in taking a picture for the “perfect” post and it is extremely detrimental to one’s ego or self-esteem.

#3 Time Consuming

Social media in general can be very time consuming (if you let it). On any given day, it is easy to spend hours scrolling through Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, or even Tik Tok. I personally now only have Snapchat which is great because the app is catered more towards people between the ages of 18 and 24. I deleted Instagram because it was draining my time. I would endlessly scroll and search for whatever came to my mind and just time slipped away.

#4 Was Not Making Me Money

Although a lot of influencers use social media for business purposes and online marketing, I personally did not have any direction in what business I wanted to start. I did not even know how the marketing tactics worked for certain businesses on Instagram because it does not even allow transactions through the app, not yet at least. I would post pictures of me really with no direction, and I never knew what to caption my pictures. If something is not making you money and you give it large amounts of time, and it is doing you no good, just move on.

#5 Fresh Start

A fresh start to my life was really needed. I am currently going through some major transitions. Refraining from social media has helped me to cope and heal with some internal conflict. On Instagram, I used to always be upset as to why nobody would follow me. I used to look at myself and wish I looked like someone else or had their hair, beauty, or lifestyle. Instagram was making me doubt myself and feeling like I needed to “keep up.” I feel more appreciative of time now and try to get back right with God. I am God fearing, and I know that he is going to clear the path that is meant for me.

Where I am Today?

Today, it is September the 26th. I currently still use Snapchat and my plans have been just to explore other online platforms that could potentially make me money such as Vocal.media. We are in Libra season which is sort of exciting because it is Cardi B’s birthday month lol. Libras and Aries are the complete opposite however opposites attract. Thank you taking the time to read Why I Deleted Instagram and I hope that YOU find some inspiration to appreciate the pure moments of time, happiness, and joy that life can be filled with :)
