At the moment, all the Buddha statues are in a row. My father's Buddha statue is in the middle, my Buddha statue is next to my father's, and the others are arranged in order of rank, rank, and rank of the worshipper. After the arrangement, my father stood up and bowed down to his Buddha statue and begged in a low voice, "Gods! No one on earth is greater than you, my merciful Lord, and now this man has come to insult us, not only to slander and slander our worship, but to despise you in the extreme. Of course you know what's going on here. We can't tolerate his rambling here. Now, I pray you, punish him with your most powerful means."
My father kept pleading, but the Buddha didn't respond. He continued: "O my Lord! What's wrong with you today? Why the silence? You didn't used to be like that. Are you resting? Please wake up and help me." He reached out his hand and shook the statue, but still the statue did not speak or move.
"Why doesn't your Buddha say anything?" The stranger asked my father.
"I think he's asleep."
"You unrepentant fellow against Allah! Why worship a statue of the Buddha who can't speak or do anything? Why don't you believe in Allah, who is near and ready? Allah never sleeps. He sees everything. He is omniscient and omnipotent. And the Buddha you worship, he does nothing. It was because the damned devil possessed it to deceive you, to deceive you, to lead you astray. Now the devil has left the statue, so it has become a useless ornament. Come to your senses and believe in Allah. You should say: 'Allah is the only ruler and only he can receive worship because everything on earth is given by Allah. 'And this Buddha of yours, unable even to defend itself from damage, can it bless you? Now see with your own eyes its imbecility." As he spoke, he raised his hand and struck the Buddha in the stomach, causing it to fall.
"She is betrothed to me, brothers, and if I were to break it by giving her to one of you, it would hurt her heart greatly, for she came with me as a wife. How could I let her marry someone else? As for my admiration for her, believe me more than you. I would never give her up to anyone. But I promise you that, when we are safely back in Basra, I will find you two local girls who please you both, propose for you both, give you the bride price with my money, and the three of us shall be married on the same day, with noisy guests. As for the woman who came with me, I affirm once more that she belongs to me, and advise you both to give her no more thought."
After repeated explanations, both brothers fell silent.
I thought they had changed their minds under my explanation. So we set off for Basra. During the journey, I served tea and food to the girl in the cabin every day as usual, and took every care of her. She remained hidden from public view. I slept outside myself with my two brothers.
The ship sailed on for forty days, and it was not until Basra appeared in the distance that we were sure of our safe return home, and our hearts were filled with joy. I had always trusted my brothers, and had never considered being on my guard against them. But I never expected, that night, when I was sleeping, unconsciously has been lifted up by two brothers. One of them held my feet, the other my hands, and, in an unbrotherly attempt to seize the girl, they threw me into the sea. When I saw that my life was at stake, I said to them in horror:
"Brothers, why do you do this to me?"
"You heartless fellow! We'll have to throw you into the sea to get rid of our hatred for a woman who doesn't care about brotherly feelings." And sure enough they threw me overboard.
At this point Abdullah turned to the dogs and said, "Brother! Am I telling the truth about these things?"
The two dogs bowed their heads and closed their eyes to prove the truth of his story. The caliph was surprised when he saw that.
