What Is Energy Healing?

A brief overview.

By Priestess GanesaPublished 3 years ago 4 min read

Energy healing is an alternative therapeutic practice that seeks to balance and restore a person's energy system, thereby promoting physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. It is based on the belief that energy flows throughout the body and can become blocked, leading to illnesses and diseases. The goal of energy healing is to remove any blockages in these energy pathways and restore balance to the energy system.

There are many different types of energy used in energy healing practices in almost every culture, each with a rich history and tradition. I'll mention and give a brief description of the most popular forms below.

Japanese Traditions

Japanese Reiki is one of the most well-known forms of energy healing. It was developed in the early 20th century by Mikao Usui and is based on the concept of universal life force energy. Reiki practitioners channel this energy through their hands to certain points on the recipient’s body, promoting physical and emotional healing. They can either place their hands on the recipient, just above the recipient, or perform the healing from a distance by using visualization to help perform the healing.

Chinese Traditions

Chinese medicine, including acupuncture and Qigong, is another ancient tradition that uses energy healing techniques. In these practices, energy pathways known as meridians are used to diagnose and treat illness and imbalances. Acupuncture involves the insertion of fine needles into specific points along the meridians to restore balance to the energy system. Qigong, on the other hand, involves a series of physical movements, breathing techniques, and meditation practices to cultivate and balance qi, or life force energy.

Indian Traditions

In Indian tradition, energy healing is a central aspect of Ayurveda, the oldest medical system in the world. Ayurveda views illness as an imbalance in the body's energy system and uses various techniques, including massage, herbal remedies, and yoga, to restore balance. Another Indian tradition, Pranic healing, uses life force energy, similar to Japanese Reiki, to heal physical and emotional imbalances.

Egyptian Traditions

Egyptian energy healing, also known as Sekhem Energy Healing, is based on the ancient Egyptian belief in the flow of life force energy through the body. This Egyptian form of energy healing incorporates visualizations while channeling the universal life force energy from the practitioner's hands to the recipient's energy field, manipulating an individual's energy field to bring about physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Another Egyptian tradition is Kemetic Yoga, a form of yoga based on ancient Egyptian spiritual practices and beliefs that focuses on postures, breath control, and meditation to help practitioners connect with their spiritual selves and the natural world so they can develop physical and mental wellness and find a deeper sense of inner peace and spiritual connection.

Native American Traditions

Native American traditions all over the world, including shamanism and traditional indigenous healing practices, also incorporate energy healing techniques. These practices often involve spiritual rituals, such as smudging with sage and other sacred herbs, or using sacred herbs and plants in other ways such as teas to drink, or chanting and beating a drum to cleanse and balance the energy field.

These are just a few different types of energy healing. There are many others not mentioned, as energy healing practices have been used in various cultures and civilizations for thousands of years, but they are all similar if not in practice then in the results desired and achieved through the practice. The potential benefits of energy healing are numerous and include physical healing, stress relief, emotional balance, improved sleep, and a greater sense of well-being. However, it is important to note that energy healing should not be used as a substitute for conventional medical treatment. It is a complementary form of therapy that works best for most when used in conjunction with conventional treatments.

To obtain energy healing, one can seek out a qualified practitioner or attend workshops and training programs. It is important to research and choose a practitioner who has received proper training and certification. Additionally, it is always advisable to discuss any alternative therapies with a healthcare provider to ensure they do not interact negatively with any existing medical conditions or treatments.
