It's been almost two months of total lockdown at my house, and for the past five months, all the gyms have been locked. I couldn't go out to jog much. That is why, in 2020, I gained weight. My body does not do well when I do not work out regularly. At some point, I was also ashamed about going out with my close friends for Christmas and New Year. Given how the year 2020 has gone, when I still have time for myself, I just figured I might make a little difference. When most people I know were planning for the upcoming celebration on December 1, I figured I might do something when I still had 31 days left in the month of December.

A Journey to Losing Weight
Weight loss trends. Fad diets. Exercise. Starving yourself. Calorie counting. Cut the carbs. Cut the sugar. Vegan/Vegetarian. Keto. More of this, less of that. Changing your lifestyle. Fashion magazines. All of these things set the standards for what and how both men and women view themselves and what is "socially acceptable" to look like. Health classes in high school classrooms tell you what an appropriate and average weight is for your height. You can be 5' 6" and 145lbs but it doesn't mean you're healthy. In grade school they give you the food pyramid, designed to show you different tires that tell you how much a food category (fruits, veggies, meat, dairy, bread) to consume. Health problems and injuries affect the weight loss journey, women with thyroid issues find it harder to lose weight and people, like myself, who have been injured playing sports as a teen, or trip going up the stairs, gained a lot of weight simply from lack of exercise.

So Long 2020
Getting rid of the shape that I have created for myself following a year in quarantine is not going to be the easiest of tasks. I look back on 2020 and wonder why I was not more productive in the health and wellness area of my life. I mean, I had almost an entire year to get back into the beachbody scene. I could have been hanging out with Shawn T or Tony Horton and running around saying “heyyyy” when I look in the mirror. But noooo, not me. Why would I want to waste almost an entire year off of work by killing myself with some Insanity or P90x? I hadn’t been off of work this much since 2013 when I decided to step back to part time. I did focus on my fitness back then though. Like, 3-5 hours a day focussed. But not in 2020. This was going to be the year of fun. Now here I sit, 20 pounds heavier, contemplating 2021 and another year of getting back into those size 9 jeans that I spent way too much money on. So to start, and probably the most important part of getting back into those jeans, I need to dump the sugar and put something less toxic in my body.
