What Is the Keto Diet Anyway?
Here's a question for you. What is the Ketogenic Diet anyway? I know that when I first heard about it, I had no clue what it was or all the benefits that it can provide to your body. It seemed too good to be true, so I wanted to go home and do my research. Once I found out more information, I wanted to share with everyone so that they can decide for themselves if this is something they would like to try.

Holistic Health and Healthy Eating Tips
About 70% of my snaps on Snapchat consist of food. 90% of those are snaps of healthy food. I'm a health conscious person and have been since the beginning of high school. I succumbed to diet fads and was solely interested in being skinner (than I already was) but now it's a lifestyle... but not in a dangerous way. Like every other teenage girl, I had body image issues, despite being a 5'0", 90 pound girl. I was always small and continue to be, but now I eat not for my weight, but for myself and holistic being.

Stem Cell Research
Every human body has special cells that, when they divide, have the potential to become any specific cell with a certain function such as blood cells, brain cells, or muscle cells. However, a type of stem cell called adult stem cells are limited. There are specific stem cells that can only grow into certain organ tissue. For example, humans have liver stem cells that can only grow into liver cells and not into any other type of organ or tissue. Embryonic stem cells are not limited in this way. In a blastocyst, or a fertilized egg that has not yet attached to the uterine wall, there are millions of stem cells that have the potential to grow into any type of tissue. The eggs used for stem cell research are not extracted from a woman’s body, but rather from a fertilized egg in a petri dish. Many scientists want to use the flexibility and potential of stem cell research to better human life and ease suffering. However, there are those who oppose the use of these type of cells. One cause of the controversy of this issue is that in many cases, the blastocyst is destroyed in the process of extracting the stem cells. For almost 20 years, scientists have been debating back and forth about the ethics of stem cell research, specifically concerning embryonic stem cells.

Epilepsy
A week ago, I experienced my first grand mal seizure after being seizure-free for ten years. I have found, in my years of being epileptic, that I have missed out on experiences, jobs, and relationships due to people's failure to understand what epilepsy really is. So, without further ado, I'm hoping to write a little bit about my experience suffering from grand mal seizures and their recurrence.

More than Pretty Pictures
Art Therapy is a therapy that is used in way to express one’s self in a creative way to improve their overall well being, physically and mentally. Art Therapy is “to explore with the patient the things that are preventing them from advancing in his or her life” (qtd. in Art Therapy Credentials Board). Though many Art Therapy Interventions are often mixed with other modalities, studies from the Journal of the American Art Therapy Association show that isolated Art Therapy sessions are beneficial for change and growth in both children and adults; art is more than just making pretty pictures.

Why You Should Not Ignore Your Pain — Fix It
Emotional battles are the core of women's experiences and existence. Trauma, heartbreak, childhood wounds, physiological ailments, failures in friendships, forced situations, failed communications, peer violent language, mental instability, abusive relationships — are just a small list of the afflictions everyday that creep its way into the innocence and gentleness of our origins. Just this past weekend a close family member of mine was in an atrocious accident. The outlook looked so bleak but this person is living, recovering, and healing today. Life is truly an emotional roller coaster with strong, beautiful highs and deep pits of hideous lows. This battle is real and it should not be pushed down, it should be let out and endured.
