Am I Healthy?

Are you healthy?

By John Paul EscalaPublished 6 years ago 3 min read
How do you look at your life? Do YOU see your life in a bigger picture?

Health is one of the most important parts of our life. Do you agree? If yes, keep reading. I am currently studying Sports Science (Health and Recreation) and Physical Education and Coaching (Kinesiology). I know for a fact that there are many components in this program that may be difficult to understand. However, the end goal for this program is to have an effective outlook on the importance of health. Whenever I enter a classroom to take a new course, I always ask myself, how is this related to health? This question brought me to ask myself: How is my health?

Having to ask this question and to reflect on it made me wonder if my lifestyle is healthy at all. When I talk about lifestyle, I refer to a holistic approach, which is looking at my life in a bigger picture and pinpointing every aspect of it. This is where I looked at the following: Physical, emotional, mental, spiritual, environmental. This component looks at my family, friends, school, work, church, physical health, sleep, and many more. I start to evaluate and ask myself: what can I do to be healthy in all this aspect? I start to watch every aspect of my life and to make sure that it is healthy.

Before I continue, what is my definition of healthy? I am not talking about the scientific meaning behind it. But, this is my definition: Being healthy is being joyful with all aspects of my life. The keyword here is "Joyful," - which necessarily means that it is something that I can be content with for the rest of my life. Don't get me wrong, downfalls will come and go, but the important matter is to be joyful when things are not going your way.

I am now going back to you evaluating myself. In this part, I started to see all aspects of my life, and I have to admit, there were parts where I was too strict. I practiced mindfulness and talked to myself, "This is okay; let's see where I can start?" Then, I start imagining the bigger picture, which was visualizing myself, seeing what I am doing. I envisioned myself helping others transform their lifestyle, to seek their potential. I believe that everyone has the potential to be greater than who they are.

From that perspective, I have been encouraging and helping others reach their true potential, simply by transforming their lifestyle. I got my certification to become a certified fitness trainer and a certified nutrition coach with Precision Nutrition. If I ask you this question, "Are YOU joyful with your current lifestyle?" Some may take time to answer this question, and some will know the answer right away and that maybe "Yeah, most definitely," and some are, "No, I need to change my lifestyle, but I don't know how ?" All of these are okay! The bigger question now would be, "What are YOU going to do about it?" At the end of the day, it is YOU who is going to take action as no one is going to do it for you. There are individuals in your life who will support you, but at the end of the day, it is you who is going to transform your life.

To end this, here is a quote from an individual that I coached and the reason why I love what I do,

"I always had trouble with my weight. Even after watching videos in order to help me learn how to diet, it was so complicated that I always tried and failed. But when I met JP, he made it super easy and simple to understand portion sizing and because of that, I've been losing weight and understanding how to do it! Not only that, my confidence has gone up as well! "
