A Tower Moment: Don't Remain Grounded in Fear When You Are Meant to Fly
September 15 Monday Morning Huddle

Good morning and welcome to the September 15 edition of the Monday Morning Huddle. Today's photo captures a bird on a tower, and a spiritual message for anyone feeling stuck in fear. If you are so overwhelmed with fear that you are beginning to believe your emotions ground you in place, then perhaps I can help.
While fear is a basic human emotion experienced by everyone, it's what one does with it moving forward that makes the difference.
Becoming so stuck in the sensation develops roots, roots tethered to one's spirit. This is what I mean by "Grounded in Fear."
Unlike the grounding technique, which is symbolic of bringing one out of an overwhelming emotional state, incorporating sensory mechanisms and refocusing the mind to overcome anxiety or trauma, which helps get to the root of specific issues, grounded in fear is the opposite.
It's the unconscious roots we plant when fear takes such a significant hold that it becomes entangled with our being.
Think of a tree, and its nutrient-rich roots, keeping it alive.
In comparison, your veins are roots, feeding all your branches.
Do you want to be grounded in fear, a poison, or the opposite, grounded in faith, which in the Bible equates to faith and love?
A tower moment
When I snapped today's cover photo, the spiritual message had already been delivered to my higher self. "Don't Remain Grounded in Fear When You Are Meant to Fly" flooded my mindspace as soon as I looked across the way from my balcony while enjoying my morning coffee.
Instantly, today's huddle theme came to me, and I knew I had to dig deeper.
My first thought took me to the tarot and its profound insight.
In the tarot, the tower symbolizes sudden, unavoidable change. It's an abrupt, often chaotic upheaval that forces the abandonment of ideals or situations built on weak or false foundations. Receiving the tower in a reading can feel daunting, especially with the image of a lightning-struck tower, but the flipside results in the reconstruction of new concepts and substructures upon which faith and love thrive, creating a brighter tomorrow.
Perhaps instead of fearing the tower, one should face the lightning and take a leap of faith; after all, eventually, the tower will crumble. Wouldn't it be more ideal, much healthier, to tear down the structure oneself, before procrastination leads to the universe forcing its hand, destroying all that must be ridden in a caught off guard moment?
Bird on the tower
The sight of the bird on the distant tower gave my spiritual message the wings it so desperately needed.
Fear and imminent change on the horizon, although emotionally complex, were afforded freedom with the sitting presence of one bird.
In the early morning, the sun was rising so beautifully in New York, and a bird sitting on a distant tower captured my attention, telling me it's time to fly.
Birds, themselves, offer such spiritual insight if one allows their airspace messages to envelope the soul. Spiritual keywords to keep in mind include freedom, new heights, exploration, travel ( physical & spiritual), release, independence, courage, and incoming news via call, text, or letter.
Personally, seeing a bird is not just simply seeing a bird; it's a powerful presence of divine meaning. Spending time in nature, observing patterns, sounds, and specific attributes, provides insights I might otherwise ignore if I were unaware.
Shared resonance
To serve the reader better, I must share resonance. Fear has kept me stuck, or as I previously said, "grounded" for far too long.
Some of you know that I have been suffering from pain and physical limitation from a medial meniscus tear that happened in February of this year. A work-related accident nearly seven months ago still impacts my day-to-day activities and time, so far, has brought me not an ounce of peace.
And with this pain, fear has become a troublesome companion.
- Fear of no resolution in sight
- Fear that no one cares
- Fear of making a career change
- Fear that my condition will become more complex (amidst new symptoms)
My mindset battles between moments of clarity and clouds of despair as I often feel like one step forward is two steps back. Anxiety-riddled nights, often only getting three hours of sleep, further complicate matters as I wish all of this to be over, but sometimes, fear just feels safe.
Safe because it's what I've grown accustomed to, not because it's healthy.
Today's huddle, my photo, even more so as I write, has opened my eyes to MY TOWER MOMENT.
I soundly realize that despite my current situation, I must tear the tower down. I must tear down my fears, no matter how debilitating they might be at times, especially on pain-grueling days. I must restore the faith that has walked me through many other daunting life experiences, and look to that faith as a moment of freedom, much like the bird before flight in my cover photo.
I cannot function grounded in fear, and neither can you.
Of course, fear is a normal part of our human existence, but left to its own devices, it fuels something far more dangerous: HATE.
Extreme, I know, but I say this to demonstrate the importance of embracing an opposite notion, one of faith and love.
Your turn
If this week's huddle finds you with similar feelings, whether based on specific life circumstances, personal challenges, relationships, or other less-than-cheerful events, know that your tower moment is here.
Don't wait until the universe, divine, or whatever you wish to call it, steps in and crumbles the tower for you.
Spirit says the time is now.
After all, fear and change may not be the best of bedfellows, but they serve a purpose: to prompt deep thinking, thinking which leads to a better tomorrow, using reconstruction.
Your tower is here, and you are the bird. Fly, birdie, fly!

The many tower moments I had in my life... Thank you for the great reminder, and you gave us so much food for thought.
So let's all tear down our towers! Gosh this was sooo powerful Marilyn. You are so good at doing this!
I will have to think on this (as usual after your Monday Morning Huddles!) Thank you for giving me much to ponder and perhaps even write on myself.
As always you give us a lot to think about. Fear makes us human and as I think you said a part of us all some way or another. Without fear where will we all be and what will we be doing. Great job.
A good way to complete a Monday, Marilyn. And a powerful statement against self-doubt!! We all need this!
Amazing, Marilyn!!! Once again, your words come together to build confidence that brighter days are ahead. Releasing fears is the key to solving so many personal issues. Thank you so much for sharing!
A Monday morning thought that will carry me throughout the week, and hopefully longer. Thank you
